With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Fedor Emelianenko!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith leaves Emelianenko with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Emelianenko shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Smith is looking to get to half guard.
Smith is trying to stand up.
Smith is in a horrible position here. Emelianenko smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.


It looks like Kellen Smith has been cut.
Emelianenko wants to take Smith's back here but Smith is holding on to an arm, himself looking to escape.
Smith wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back.

Emelianenko working for a choke but Smith is defending well.
Smith is trying to stand back up.
Emelianenko wants to control but Smith manages to buck him off and is now in Emelianenko's guard! Nice work there by Smith!

Emelianenko has his foot on Smith's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Smith works his way back into a safe position though.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Smith drops Emelianenko with a left right combo! Smith follows him down to the ground into side control.

It looks like Fedor Emelianenko has been cut.

Emelianenko tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Smith wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Smith in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
Smith will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Smith creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Emelianenko sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

Smith working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Emelianenko gets back to half guard.
Emelianenko is staying active underneath Smith, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Emelianenko is looking for a sweep. Smith is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Smith lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Emelianenko backs up against the cage.
Emelianenko shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Smith defends it nicely.

Nice straight punches there by Smith. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Smith.
Horrible takedown by Emelianenko or perhaps it was just good defense by Smith which made him look bad.
Kellen Smith has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Fedor Emelianenko.
Emelianenko takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Emelianenko takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.

Smith bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Emelianenko's head backwards.
Smith grits his teeth and throws a big right-left combo! Emelianenko takes both shots clean on the chin and is out cold! Smith cracks him once more on his way down, as the crowd goes wild! They enjoyed that one!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:10 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Kellen Smith!
