PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Ground Pound II (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marcus Randall (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Ground Pound II!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Marcus Randall!
The judges for this bout are Saam Ante, Albert Achterberg and Daniel Blasius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pound II slips under a jab from Randall.

Pound II shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Randall napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Pound II misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
Pound II cracks Randall with a big right hand but Randall just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Randall tries to strike from the bottom but misses.
Pound II postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Randall is trying to control Pound II's posture but Pound II avoids it.

Randall tries for a takedown but Pound II circles away easily

and Pound II counters with a shoot takedown. Randall fights it but they end up in guard.

Randall has his foot on Pound II's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Pound II works his way back into a safe position though.

Pound II is just content to waste time from the top position. Randall takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

Randall is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Pound II is aware though and is defending well.

Pound II postures up and lands a big shot to Randall's brow.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Randall misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Randall tries to clinch but Pound II is having none of it.

Pound II is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Randall is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Randall has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Pound II can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Pound II has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

so Pound II counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Pound II lands a couple of decent looking shots.

Randall has an active guard here but Pound II has managed to pass into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Pound II lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Randall is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Pound II pulls his head out easily.

Pound II is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Randall defends it well.
Randall is looking for a sweep. Pound II is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Pound II is nestled in close to Randall, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Pound II got a little sloppy there for a moment and Randall has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Pound II has managed to get both his arms back between Randall's legs - danger averted.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Pound II postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Randall is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Pound II, into his guard.
Pound II on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Pound II tries to get out of the position.
Randall pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Pound II is keeping the position for now.
Pound II keeping moving, preventing Randall from controlling successfully.
Randall wants to get up but he can't break Pound II's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Randall is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Pound II doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Randall.

Randall is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Randall keeping moving, preventing Pound II from controlling successfully.
Randall tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Pound II drops back looking for a leg! Randall is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Randall manages to kick Pound II off! Pound II jumps back into Randall's guard.

Randall clinches but Pound II breaks the clinch

and Pound II counters with a takedown into side control.

And that's the end of the fight!
Ground Pound II showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Pound II has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
