The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smack throws a head kick that misses.

Fernandez shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Smack escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Fernandez gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Fernandez tries to free his leg and advance position but Smack is retaining full guard.

Fernandez drops back looking for a leg! Smack is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Smack manages to kick Fernandez off! Fernandez jumps back into Smack's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Fernandez is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Smack is surviving well by controlling Fernandez's body position as best he can.

Fernandez jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Smack is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Smack and Fernandez has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Fernandez tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Fernandez has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Fernandez is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Smack looks calm but he's in trouble here. Fernandez gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm.
