PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Freddie Figgjo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Enrique Guerrero (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Figgjo comes to the ring accompanied by Edward Grieg. Guerrero comes into a darkened arena with his song building. I Lie, I Cheat, I Steal kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 7 - 1, fighting out of London, Freddie Figgjo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Enrique Guerrero!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, Colin Fotheringham and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Figgjo misses with a series of wild punches.
Guerrero misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Figgjo.
Guerrero throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Figgjo throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Guerrero on the side of the head.
Figgjo looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Figgjo cracks Guerrero with a right hand to the side of the head.
Guerrero takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Guerrero tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Figgjo swivels and escapes.
Figgjo stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Figgjo lands a lovely overhand right.
Guerrero tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Figgjo keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Guerrero moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.

Guerrero takes a swing at Figgjo's ribcage but misses.
Figgjo connects with a right hand. Guerrero shakes it off.
Guerrero misses with an uppercut. Figgjo saw that one coming.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Figgjo closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Guerrero gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Figgjo connects with a single shot there.
Guerrero doesn't manage to clinch there - Figgjo circles away.
Figgjo is really peppering his opponent's head with punches.

Nice uppercut lands for Figgjo. That snapped Guerrero's head back.
Guerrero keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.

Figgjo scores with a sloppy right hand. Guerrero should have avoided that one.

Guerrero is looking for a takedown up against the ropes. Figgjo gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Figgjo breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
The fight stays on the outside here - Guerrero looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Figgjo ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Figgjo paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Guerrero takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.

Figgjo turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.

and Figgjo connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Freddie Figgjo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Guerrero looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Guerrero misses the shot to the body.
Guerrero takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Figgjo ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Guerrero takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Guerrero thows a left - swing and a miss!

Figgjo is looking to take a break and control but Guerrero is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Figgjo is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Guerrero is just riding it out for now. Figgjo eventually gives up the hold.

Guerrero won't allow Figgjo to pass to mount.
Guerrero wants to improve his position but Figgjo is controlling well.
Guerrero wants to control but Figgjo is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Figgjo perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Figgjo lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Guerrero takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.

Figgjo shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Guerrero's guard.
Figgjo works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Figgjo scores with a couple of good hammerfists.

Figgjo looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Guerrero wants to improve his position but Figgjo is controlling well.
Guerrero is not content to let Figgjo control the position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Guerrero is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Guerrero got a little sloppy there for a moment and Figgjo has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Guerrero has managed to get both his arms back between Figgjo's legs - danger averted.
Guerrero tries to free his leg and advance position but Figgjo is retaining full guard.
Guerrero wants to get up but he can't break Figgjo's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Figgjo looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Guerrero is defending well. Figgjo quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Guerrero has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Figgjo celebrates on the ropes, with the crowd.
