PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Newton Carlos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joshua Turner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Carlos comes into the arena with Break Stuff blaring out of the sound system. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Newton Carlos!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Joshua Turner!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Robert Douchet and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Carlos fails with a takedown attempt.

and Carlos counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Carlos is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Turner tries to lock up and control but Carlos gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Carlos moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Turner has worked his arm free - good work by Turner!

Carlos is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Turner doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Carlos.

Carlos is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Turner is just riding it out for now. Carlos eventually gives up the hold.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Turner gets full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Carlos lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Turner wants to sweep here but Carlos controlling him for the moment.

Carlos drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Turner dives on top into guard.

Carlos throws his legs up looking for a submission but Turner uses it to pass to side control.
Turner lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Carlos down.

Turner got a little sloppy there for a moment and Carlos has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Turner has managed to get both his arms back between Carlos's legs - danger averted.

and Turner counters with a good low kick that Carlos was not able to check.
Turner throws a series of punches but Carlos avoids them all with ease.

Turner slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Turner stands up over Carlos, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Turner won't allow Carlos to sweep him here.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Carlos has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Turner can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Joshua Turner showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!



Carlos shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Turner's guard.
Turner pulls Carlos in close to his closed guard and prevents Carlos from doing any damage or advancing position.
Turner not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Carlos stands and throws Turner's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Carlos wants to get back to his feet but Turner is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Carlos avoids the attempt from Turner to control.

Carlos jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Turner is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Turner and Carlos has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Carlos frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Carlos goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Turner turns into him and now he's in Carlos's guard.

I would just about give that final round to Joshua Turner.
Well Turner has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
