PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Xuribiba Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Genocide One (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Xuribiba Silva!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Genocide One!
The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, Chad Campbell and Columbo Gatti.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Silva closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming One to the mat! One manages to get full guard.
One keeping full guard, as Silva tries to pass.
Silva trying to control but One is working from the bottom.
One is striking off his back. Silva thinks nothing of it though and passes easily into half guard.
Silva wants to free his trapped foot but One is holding on for dear life with his legs.
One is holding on to half guard well.
Silva is looking to advance position but One won't allow it.
One trying to control but Silva postures up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's one minute gone in the round.
One is looking for a sweep. Silva is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
One trying to hold on to Silva's head to control him but Silva postures up.
Silva tries to pass the half guard into mount. One knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
One fails with the takedown

and Silva counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Silva.
Silva throws a strike but One rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
One must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Silva is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
One trying to control the position from guard on top but Silva is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

One trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
One postures up in Silva's guard and throws a big left but Silva blocks it.
Silva trying to keep a closed guard but One is proving a slippery customer.
One should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
One swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Silva counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for One!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
One tries to reverse the position but Silva maintains control.
One bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
One sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Silva's guard.
Silva is trying to control but can't.

One seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Silva does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Silva moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
One looks gassed!
Silva manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. One manages to get himself to full guard.

Silva will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
One keeping moving, preventing Silva from controlling successfully.

Silva thows a big elbow that misses, also allowing One to regain full guard.

One working for a triangle but Silva defends it easily.
One tries to land a sweep but no joy.
One is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Silva postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! One is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Silva, into his guard.
Silva wants to sweep here but One controlling him for the moment.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


One tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Silva counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for One!
One wants to control but Silva is having none of it.
One is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

Silva is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But One has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from One!
Silva wants to sweep here but One controlling him for the moment.
One wants to control from the top but Silva keeps moving.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Hammerfist, elbow! yells One's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

One decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

One gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Silva is trying to drag One to the mat but One just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Silva changes levels and goes for a takedown here. One fights it off and pushes away nicely.
One wants to clinch but Silva slips to the side

and Silva counters with a takedown into side control.

One throws an elbow to the body but it doesn't land.
One is looking for a sweep.
One struggling a bit here.

Silva looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
One parries the strikes from Silva easily there. Silva is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable One to escape.
One gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Silva missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

One shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Silva napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Silva sneaks back into half guard.
Silva wants to improve his position but One is controlling well.
One wants to take a breather but Silva is having none of it.
Silva makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Silva.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
One wants to control from the top but Silva keeps moving.
One won't allow Silva to sweep him here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Xuribiba Silva dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

and Silva counters with a nice double leg into side control. One won't be happy with that.
One is looking for a sweep.

Silva working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Silva lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear One down.

One working over Silva with some ground and pound. Silva looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Silva is trying to get back to full guard.
One is trying to control the action in half guard but Silva is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Silva wants to improve his position but One is controlling well.
One takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
One seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Silva does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
One looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Silva moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Silva is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Silva connects with a nice short shot to One's temple.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Silva lands a nice short elbow.
One has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Silva is working away from the top position though.
Genocide One has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Xuribiba Silva is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Xuribiba Silva overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
One tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.

And that's the end of the fight!
Xuribiba Silva showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Silva, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
