Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Stan Best (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Philippe Mexes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Stan Best!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Philippe Mexes!
The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Kenichi Hosakawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Best shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Best was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Mexes bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Mexes drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Best manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Mexes has Best in his guard.

Mexes is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Best is aware though and is defending well.

Mexes looking for a guillotine here but Best defends easily.

Mexes is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Mexes is looking for a triangle but Best pushes his legs off easily.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Mexes working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Best has passed into half guard!
Best takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Best has control of Mexes's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Mexes regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Best looking to control but Mexes is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Mexes tries to reverse the position but Best maintains control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Best trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Best lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

Best lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Mexes is in all sorts of trouble here.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Best cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Mexes is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Best lands a heavy elbow.
Best working the ground and pound effectively.
Mexes is wriggling around trying to escape.
Mexes gets back to half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Best is nestled in close to Mexes, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Best lands a nice short elbow.

Mexes looking for submissions off his back.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Best connects with a nice short shot to Mexes's temple.
Best slips a nice elbow through Mexes's hands, connecting with Mexes's forehead.

Mexes looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.

Mexes is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Best pulls his head out easily.
Mexes is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Best scores with a couple of nice shots.
Best winds up and cracks Mexes with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Mexes looking for submissions off his back.

Mexes actively working from the bottom here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Best trying to control from half guard but Mexes is working away.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Mexes drives through with a takedown into guard.
Mexes stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Best swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Mexes thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Mexes postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Best is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Mexes, into his guard.

Best got a little sloppy there for a moment and Mexes has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Best has managed to get both his arms back between Mexes's legs - danger averted.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Mexes bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Best's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Stan Best will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Best gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Mexes counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Best!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Mexes quickly switches position and commits to an armbar! It's a big risk for Mexes but it's paid off an Best is forced to tap! Nice work by Mexes.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:26 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Philippe Mexes!
