PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Halibut Halibut (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Grappler Striking (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Halibut comes to the cage accompanied by Peter You Suck. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Halibut Halibut!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Grappler Striking!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Robert Twigg and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Halibut misses with a looping right.

Striking clinches up with Halibut and pushes him back against the cage.

With the two fighters working up against the cage, Halibut just misses with a elbow thrown towards Striking's brow.

Striking pulls guard effortlessly.

Striking looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Halibut wants to control from the top but Striking keeps moving.

Halibut has gone for a leg lock! Striking slips out almost immediately though and dives into Halibut's guard.

Striking is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Halibut has managed to free his arm - good work.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Striking throws a lazy right hand but Halibut sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Halibut fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.

Striking works on Halibut's body with a couple of short punches.
Striking lands a right hand that snaps the head of Halibut backwards.
Halibut tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Striking just stands there and leans against the cage.
Striking stops a takedown attempt from Halibut.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Halibut Halibut. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Striking throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Halibuts head.

Striking can't find room to land a body shot as Halibut controls the action.
Striking tries to pull guard but Halibut holds him up against the cage and eventually Striking drops back down to his feet.
Halibut jumps guard but Striking stands there with Halibut around his waist. Halibut gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Striking is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Striking thumps Halibut with a low kick.
Halibut tries for a takedown but Striking sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Halibut throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Striking fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Striking does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Halibut Halibut seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

A jab from Halibut does it's job there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Grappler Striking dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


A telegraphed right hand from Halibut misses the target.
Striking comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Striking leaves Halibut with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Halibut throws and low kick but Striking moves out of range easily.

Striking lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.

Striking closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Halibut tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Halibut has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Halibut is refusing to be controlled, as Striking sits in half guard.

Striking is nestled in close to Halibut, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Grappler Striking comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Striking has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
