The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hockert tries to clinch but Shepard is having none of it.
The fight stays on the outside here - Hockert looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Shepard shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Hockert but Hockert pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Gabriel Shepard seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Hockert has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Shepard can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Hockert escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Shepard gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Hockert has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Shepard is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Hockert.

Hockert is looking for a kimura but Shepard is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Hockert to get the leverage.

Shepard tries to roll over but Hockert keeps him under control.
