The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Refen will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
maker avoids the body shot from Refen.

maker throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Refen.

and maker counters with a left and a right that stings Refen.
maker goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.

and maker counters with a nice double leg into guard.
maker trying to control the position from guard on top but Refen is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Refen on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Refen tries to get out of the position.
Refen is looking to stand up but maker isn't so interested in that idea.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Refen has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
maker working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Refen doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Refen manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

maker seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Refen does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Refen is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but maker pulls his head out easily.
Refen tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.

Refen swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and maker counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
maker throws a series of punches but Refen moves out of range.
Refen lands with a jab that stuns his opponent. maker is looking to close the distance but Refen sees it coming and throws a beautiful knee! maker crumbles to the mat and that's all she wrote! Let's hope maker is OK because that was naaaaaasty!
