PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Norman Bates (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Thiago Suzuki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bates's entrance music is Dance Hall Days. A fine choice. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Norman Bates!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Thiago Suzuki!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Ian Loll and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Suzuki throws a nice outside leg kick.
Nice uppercut there from Suzuki.
Bates showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Suzuki.
Suzuki misses with a series of wild punches.
Suzuki throws a sloppy head kick and Bates moves out of range easily.
Suzuki swings away with a leg kick that misses.
Bates throws a hook but Suzuki avoids it easily.
Bates connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Suzuki clobbers Bates with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.

Suzuki ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Suzuki dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Bates. That did some damage!

Suzuki throws out a loose jab but Bates uses good head movement to avoid it.

Suzuki tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Bates was well out of range. Poor timing from Suzuki.
Suzuki punishes Bates's body with a nice straight punch.

Suzuki lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Bates at a distance.
Suzuki misses with a low kick as Bates jumps back.
Suzuki tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Bates is able to avoid easily.
Bates takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Suzuki throws and low kick but Bates moves out of range easily.

Bates steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Suzuki.
The fighters circling - Bates throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
No joy there for Suzuki, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Bates misses with a low kick.
Suzuki lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Bates circles away quickly and effectively.
A punch lands to the side of Bates 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Thiago Suzuki seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Suzuki misses with a series of wild punches.
Suzuki will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

and Bates counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Suzuki throws a jab but it's blocked by Bates.
Suzuki misses with a low kick.
Suzuki uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Bates.

Suzuki throws a big shot that misses.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Bates throws a nice looking combination but Suzuki bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Suzuki does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
No joy there for Suzuki, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Suzuki fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Bates manages to avoid it.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Suzuki missing with a left hand there. Bates was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.

That was a close second round but I would say that Norman Bates will probably get the nod.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Bates has Suzuki up against the cage in a clinch.
Suzuki stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body.
Suzuki struggles to land a body shot inside as Bates controls his hands.
Bates lands an elbow that stopped Suzuki in his tracks for a moment.
Good anti-grappling being displayed by Bates as Suzuki tries to tie him up.
Suzuki scores with a nice hook to the head.
Bates throws an elbow but it's blocked.
Suzuki is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.
Bates blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Suzuki has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Bates is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Suzuki blocks an elbow strike from Bates.
Suzuki is trying to stall.
Bates misses with an elbow over the top.
Bates keeps control of Suzuki as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Suzuki breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Suzuki looks to land a right hand but Bates moved out of range.

Thiago Suzuki comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Suzuki has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
