The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Alvarez fails to land the takedown.

Karl has Alvarez up against the cage in a clinch.
Alvarez has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Karl avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Karl drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Alvarez gets underhooks to prevent Karl's takedown attempt.
Alvarez tries to pull guard but Karl won't allow it.

Alvarez tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Alvarez blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.

Karl has Alvarez pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Karl pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Alvarez tumbling to the mat - Karl dives into Alvarez's guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Alvarez is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Alvarez takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Karl has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Alvarez tries to hold on but Karl pushes him away.
BOOM! Karl connects with a massive shot to the dome!

Karl is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Alvarez can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
