Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Matthew Pajen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rodrigo Monteiro (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Pajen comes to the cage accompanied by Slagsmålsklubben Sponsored by destiny. Rodrigo Monteiro is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Matthew Pajen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Rodrigo Monteiro!
The judges for this bout are Saam Ante, Albert Achterberg and Radbod Blank.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A looping hook to the body misses from Monteiro. Pajen does a little dance to reset his feet.
Pajen misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Pajen looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Monteiro is fending him off so far but Pajen persists. Nope, Monteiro circles away and we're back to standing.
Monteiro ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.

Despite being in the dominant position, Rodrigo Monteiro just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Pajen postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Monteiro is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Pajen, into his guard.

Monteiro seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Monteiro's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Pajen wants to sweep here but Monteiro controlling him for the moment.
Pajen can't keep his opponent in guard - Monteiro advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Monteiro stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.

The fighters circle momentarily. Monteiro darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.

Monteiro looks to score with a jab to the body but Pajen is just out of range.
The fight stays on the outside here - Monteiro looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Pajen takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Pajen tries to bum rush Monteiro with a series of wild strikes but Monteiro uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Monteiro will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Pajen up against the cage.

Pajen drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Monteiro manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Pajen has Monteiro in his guard.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Well Monteiro has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
