Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Byron Monk (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and David Tennant (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Monk comes to the cage accompanied by Tears for Fears - Everybody Wants To Rule The World . David Tennant is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Byron Monk!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, David Tennant!
The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Emerson Jorge and Alexandre Firmino.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tennant lands with a nice combination. Monk backs away looking to recover.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Monk.
Tennant stuffs the takedown attempt from Monk. Monk gets slowly back to his feet.
Monk throws a right and a left that both miss.
Tennant displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Monk.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Byron Monk. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Monk fails with an attempt to clinch.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Monk is defended easily by Tennant.
Monk throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Monk is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Tennant can't fight it off and eventually Monk manages to take the fight to the floor. Tennant looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Tennant is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Monk postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Tennant is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Monk, into his guard.

Monk isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Tennant stacks Monk on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Tennant!

Tennant tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Tennant has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Monk is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Tennant is one step ahead and moves to full mount!
Monk manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Tennant wants to free his trapped foot but Monk is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Monk is looking to improve his position.

Tennant is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Monk is just riding it out for now. Tennant eventually gives up the hold.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

David Tennant dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!



Monk drives through with a takedown into guard.
Monk loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Monk drops back, looking for a kneebar! Tennant looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Tennant looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Tennant!
Monk is trying to get back to half guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Monk looking for a sweep but Tennant has passed into full mount! Oh no!

Monk is in all sorts of trouble here.
Tennant really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Monk. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Monk is trying to reverse the position but instead Tennant has taken his back - oops!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Monk is really stuck here.

Tennant has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Monk has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

Tennant looking to break Monk's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Monk remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Tennant will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Tennant patiently working for the choke. Which fighter will keep their nerve here?
Monk tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
Monk slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
The fighters are battling for position here. Monk manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Monk has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Tennant is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Monk.

Monk is working hard here to advance position.

Tennant has hold of Monk's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Monk manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Monk is looking to improve his position but Tennant isn't that keen on the idea.
Monk gets back to half guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Monk is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Monk looking for submissions off his back.
Monk wants to get back to full guard but Tennant has mounted him!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Byron Monk will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!



Tennant closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Tennant using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Monk has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.

Monk throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Tennant's waist but Tennant gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Monk off to one side.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Tennant stalks Monk and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Monk's face. Monk staggers backwards, shaken.

Tennant gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Monk has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Tennant regains guard immediately.

Monk postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Tennant is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Monk, into his guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Monk is on top in guard.

Monk drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Tennant manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Monk has Tennant in his guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Monk wants to sweep but no luck.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Monk working for submissions but it's allowed Tennant to get to half guard.

Tennant is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Monk defends it well.
Monk has a hand on Tennant's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Tennant takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Tennant manages to capitalize on a mistake by Monk to take his back!
Tennant is hanging on to Monk's back as he tries to escape.
Byron Monk overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Monk breaks Tennant's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.

Tennant escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Monk gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Monk postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Monk is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Tennant is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Tennant has escaped and now he's on top!

Monk is looking for a triangle here but Tennant uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Monk is trying to improve his position.

David Tennant comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Tennant has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
