PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Kai Roe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sam Shaw (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kai Roe!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Sam Shaw!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Frank Dennis and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shaw throws a right and a left that Roe avoids nicely.
Kai Roe seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Roe looking for a takedown here - he's got it.

Shaw looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Roe is looking to work some ground and pound but Shaw has wrist control.
Roe won't allow Shaw to sweep him here.
Roe in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Roe stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Shaw swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Roe stands and throws Shaw's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Roe lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Shaw down.
Shaw is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
The strikes coming from Roe are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
Shaw is not content to let Roe control the position.

Shaw can't do much from the bottom here.
Roe in side control lands a decent elbow.
Shaw tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Roe wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

You can see the frustration on Shaw's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Shaw is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Roe off and has taken his back!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Roe moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Shaw won't allow Roe to sweep him here.
Roe is working hard here to advance position.

Shaw is working for a kimura but Roe is defending it quite comfortably.
Shaw tries to pass to full mount but Roe defends it.
Roe is controlling Shaw's trapped leg to prevent Shaw from advancing to side control.
Roe is trying to get back to full guard.
Shaw is keen to just control but Roe is a slippery customer.
Shaw is looking to advance position but Roe won't allow it.
Shaw is looking to take a break and control but Roe is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Roe tries to roll over but Shaw keeps him under control.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Shaw ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Shaw takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Shaw throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Roe looks to score with a jab to the body but Shaw is just out of range.

Shaw lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Roe at a distance.
Roe takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Shaw lands a body shot.
Shaw throws a nice looking combination but Roe bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Shaw just misses with a punch to the body.
Roe swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Shaw misses with a takedown

and Roe counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Shaw!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kai Roe dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!


Shaw throws a right hand that Roe ducks under and follows up with a left that Roe also avoids with ease.

Roe closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Shaw is looking for a sweep. Roe is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Roe wants to pass the guard but Shaw is defending well.
Shaw has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Roe is working away from the top position though.
Nice strikes from Roe there.
Roe works his way into full mount!
Roe lands a big elbow.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Roe postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Shaw looks a forlorn figure.
Shaw is in all sorts of trouble here.

Shaw is rocked!
Roe lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Shaw is still in real trouble! Can Roe finish him?
Shaw can't escape the position.
Shaw takes a big shot to the dome and his eyes have rolled back in his head! Roe's killer instinct has kicked in as he finishes the fight with more strikes. Impressive finish.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:01 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Kai Roe!
