PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Gary Henderson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matt Hughes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Gary Henderson has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Gary Henderson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Matt Hughes!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Gwen Towbar and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hughes tries to clinch but Henderson is having none of it.
Henderson tries for a takedown but Hughes sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Hughes closes the distance and clinches.
Hughes wants a takedown but no success here.
Hughes is trying to drag Henderson to the mat but Henderson just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Henderson pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Henderson tries to clinch

and Hughes counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Hughes is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Henderson thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Henderson throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Hughes missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hughes tries to free his leg and advance position but Henderson is retaining full guard.
Hughes working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Hughes trying to control the position from guard on top but Henderson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Henderson is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Hughes is controlling him.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Henderson tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Hughes counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Hughes is looking to work some ground and pound but Henderson has wrist control.
Hughes passes into half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Still in half guard, Hughes seems content to control.
Hughes thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Hughes looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Henderson with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Hughes is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Hughes is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

Henderson has one foot on Hughes's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Henderson tries to clinch up but Hughes circles away and keeps his distance.

Hughes gets the takedown into side control.
Henderson tries to get back to half guard but can't.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hughes content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.

Hughes tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Hughes has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Hughes cracks Henderson with an elbow. That is naaassty.
Henderson wants to get back to his feet.
Henderson might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Henderson is breathing heavily.
You can see the frustration on Henderson's face as Hughes controls the position.
Henderson tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Hughes wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Hughes lands a few punches from side control.

Hughes working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Check out the look on Hughes's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!

Hughes is putting a hurting on Henderson here, landing some big shots from side control.

Hughes is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Henderson is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Hughes looks up at the clock and then as Henderson takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Hughes smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Henderson is working to avoid the ground and pound but Hughes connects with a decent elbow.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Matt Hughes dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!



Hughes closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Hughes cracks Henderson with a big elbow.
Hughes has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Hughes is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Henderson has escaped the position, nice work there.
Hughes controls the position.
Hughes in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
Henderson struggling a bit here.
Hughes lands some shots froms side control.
Hughes lands an elbow.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Hughes is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

Hughes controlling the position.
Hughes's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Hughes is chipping away with strikes.

Hughes is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Henderson looks calm but he's in trouble here. Hughes gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Henderson is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Hughes lets go of the hold and Henderson can pop his arm back in it's socket.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:04 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Matt Hughes!
