PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Michael Dwyer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Punski Nub (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Nub has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Both fighters really staring eachother down here, as Punski Nub enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Michael Dwyer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Punski Nub!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Robert Twigg and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nub throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Dwyer's waist but Dwyer gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Nub off to one side.
Nub looks gassed!

Dwyer shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Nub looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Dwyer puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

Nub looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Dwyer looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Dwyer is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Nub!
Dwyer looking to control but Nub is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Dwyer scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Nub?
Dwyer lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Dwyer landing strikes from the mount.
Dwyer lands a heavy elbow.
Nub flailing away with punches but nothing is landing.

Nub wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back.
Dwyer keeps control of the position easily here as Nub tries to buck him off.
Dwyer doesn't have the hooks in and Nub manages to turn into his guard.

Dwyer looking for a guillotine here but Nub defends easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Nub is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Dwyer has momentary wrist control but Nub slips an elbow through the middle.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Dwyer is looking to stand up but Nub isn't so interested in that idea.
Dwyer trying to control the position.
Dwyer lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Nub!
Dwyer manages to capitalize on a mistake by Nub to take his back!

Dwyer is looking for the choke from the back position but Nub is controlling his hands well.
Nub turns into Dwyer and is now in his guard.
Dwyer bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Nub's guard.
Dwyer wants to pass the guard but Nub is keeping the position.

Nub working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Dwyer doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Dwyer manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Dwyer postures up in Nub's guard and throws a big left but Nub blocks it.
Dwyer wants to control from the top but Nub keeps moving.
Nub throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Dwyer knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Nub on the ground.
Nub bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Dwyer's guard.

Nub postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Dwyer is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Nub, into his guard.

Nub is looking for a triangle but Dwyer pushes his legs off easily.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Dwyer won't allow Nub to sweep him here.
Nub is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Dwyer drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Dwyer jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Dwyer has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Nub has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Dwyer is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Nub.
Nub prevents Dwyer from moving into mount.
Dwyer wants to lay and pray for a moment but Nub keeps working.
Nub gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Michael Dwyer dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Nub tries for a takedown but Dwyer circles away easily

and Dwyer counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

Dwyer tries for a kimura but Nub is defending well.
Nub gets back to half guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Nub is staying active underneath Dwyer, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Dwyer thows a huge punch but Nub dodges it nicely.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Nub throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Dwyer escapes and throws Nub's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Nub manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Nub is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Dwyer seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Dwyer is nestled in close to Nub, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Nub blocking the ground and pound attempt from Dwyer.
Nub has a hand on Dwyer's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Dwyer takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!

Dwyer connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Dwyer landing strikes from the mount.
Nub regains half guard.
Dwyer is keen to just control but Nub is a slippery customer.
Nub slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Nub manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Nub looking to finish Dwyer with some ground and pound. This is bad for Dwyer!

Dwyer keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Dwyer is squirming around, avoiding Nub's attempts to control the action.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Dwyer defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Nub.
Dwyer is bucking up trying to escape but Nub cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Dwyer working to try and regain half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Michael Dwyer dominated that second round.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


Dwyer cracks the inside of Nub's front leg.

Nub looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Dwyer is controlling Nub's posture.

Dwyer looking for a guillotine here but Nub defends easily.
Nub won't allow Dwyer to get back to his feet.
Dwyer controls Nub momentarily but Nub frees himself.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Nub has gone for a leg lock! Dwyer slips out almost immediately though and dives into Nub's guard.

Nub has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Dwyer can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Nub wants to sweep but no luck.
Dwyer postures up.
Nub looking to hit a scissor sweep but Dwyer is one step ahead there.

Nub escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Dwyer gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Nub is on top in guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Dwyer tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Dwyer wants to stand but Nub is controlling the position.
Dwyer trying to control the position.

Nub drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Dwyer manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Nub has Dwyer in his guard.
Dwyer would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Nub manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Dwyer manages to get himself to full guard.
Nub with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Dwyer keeping moving, preventing Nub from controlling successfully.
Nub landing with the ground and pound.
Dwyer is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Nub prevents Dwyer from getting back to his feet.
Punski Nub has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Dwyer wants to sweep but no luck.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Dwyer fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Nub sprawls well initially but Dwyer persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Nub makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Nub.

Dwyer avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Nub looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

And that's the end of the fight!
Punski Nub comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Dwyer has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
