PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Chuckie Liddiell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Xande Aviao (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Liddiell comes into the arena with Time For War blaring out of the sound system. Chuckie Liddiell has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Chuckie Liddiell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Xande Aviao!
The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Matheus Silva and Emerson Jorge.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Aviao misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Liddiell shoots in for a double leg but Aviao sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

and Liddiell counters with a single leg into guard. Aviao didn't expect that.
Aviao can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Liddiell controls the pace.
Aviao throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Aviao wants to get back to his feet but Liddiell is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Aviao working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Liddiell doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Liddiell manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Aviao is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Liddiell tries to free his leg and advance position but Aviao is retaining full guard.
Aviao has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Liddiell avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Liddiell knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Aviao on the ground.
Aviao wants to get back to his feet but Liddiell is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Liddiell decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Liddiell darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Liddiell gets to his feet - back to striking we go!
Liddiell could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Liddiell wants to clinch.
Liddiell tries to clinch there but Aviao circles away.
Aviao throws a right hand that Liddiell ducks under and follows up with a left that Liddiell also avoids with ease.

Liddiell feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Aviao looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Aviao trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Aviao has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Liddiell can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Liddiell not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Aviao looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Liddiell pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Aviao is keeping the position for now.
Liddiell trying to control the position from guard on top but Aviao is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Aviao is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Liddiell is aware though and is defending well.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Chuckie Liddiell will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Aviao moves into range and clinches up with Liddiell.
Aviao wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Liddiell changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Aviao fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Chuckie Liddiell is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Aviao tries to clinch but Liddiell moves away
and Liddiell counters with a lovely straight right hand!

Liddiell looks to land a combination. Aviao sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Aviao throws a combination that misses
and Liddiell counters with a left and a right that stings Aviao.

Aviao gets a takedown into half guard.

Aviao maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Liddiell could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Aviao has cracked it and Liddiell is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Aviao!
