PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Adam Gontier (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brandon Jacobs (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gontier kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Three Days Grace - Break. Brandon Jacobs will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Adam Gontier!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Brandon Jacobs!
The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, Jorge Garcia and Anthony Taglia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Jacobs drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Gontier regains half guard, as Jacobs was trying to land strikes.
Gontier wants to improve his position but Jacobs is controlling well.
Gontier is looking to control Jacobs's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Gontier avoid being mounted?
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gontier is looking for a sweep. Jacobs is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Jacobs thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Jacobs is looking for a kimura but Gontier is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Jacobs to get the leverage.
Gontier wants to get back to full guard.
Gontier is doing well to control the position and prevent Jacobs from advancing to side control.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Gontier takes a swing at Jacobs's ribcage but misses.

Jacobs shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Gontier counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Jacobs!

Gontier has control of Jacobs's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Jacobs regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Gontier has hold of Jacobs's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Jacobs manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

That was a close round but Adam Gontier did the better work so I'd imagine he'll take it.
