PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Kolt Kannon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brett Thomas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Kolt Kannon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Brett Thomas!
The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, John Kavanagh and Russell Pearce.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kannon throws a solid leg kick but Thomas takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Kannon.
Thomas checks a low kick from Kannon.
Kannon misses with an attempted mid kick.
Kannon throws a half hearted mid kick.
Thomas fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Kannon leaves Thomas with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Thomas misses with a takedown attempt - Kannon sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Kolt Kannon has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Brett Thomas.
A head kick misses from Kannon.
Thomas shoots for a takedown but Kannon saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Kannon sets himself and throws a head kick that knocks Thomas to the ground! Kannon dives into full mount looking to finish!

Kannon is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Thomas has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Thomas!

Thomas takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Kannon is looking to improve his position but Thomas isn't that keen on the idea.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Kannon tries to lock up and control but Thomas gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Kannon is in a horrible position here. Thomas smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Thomas wants to control the pace but Kannon is squirming around nicely.

Thomas jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Kannon manages to avoid the submission attempt.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Kannon is not content to let Thomas control the position.
Kannon is trying to control but Thomas manages to pass to mount!
Kannon tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Kannon tries to hold on but Thomas pushes him away.
Thomas landing punches.
Thomas fails to move to back control.
Thomas avoids the attempt from Kannon to control.
Thomas works his way to his opponent's back.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Thomas throws a sloppy head kick and Kannon moves out of range easily.

Kannon goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Thomas pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Thomas shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Kannon as he jumps to the side.
Kannon lets loose with a powerful body kick. Thomas will feel that in the morning.
Thomas takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Kolt Kannon seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Kannon with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Thomas dives in and grabs Kannon's left leg, looking for a takedown. Kannon pushes down on Thomas's head and hops out.

Kannon tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Thomas was well out of range. Poor timing from Kannon.
Thomas is trying desperately to land a takedown but Kannon is having absolutely none of it. This is turning into a bit of a nightmare for Thomas.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Thomas is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Kannon is surviving well by controlling Thomas's body position as best he can.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Kannon tries to reverse the position but Thomas maintains control.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Kannon, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
