PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Peeta Mellark (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Raymond Yacht (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Peeta Mellark!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Raymond Yacht!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Elvis Blanc and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mellark rushes Yacht and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Mellark breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
A head kick misses from Yacht.
Yacht shoots in but no luck this time.
Yacht misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Yacht shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Mellark as he avoids it easily.
Peeta Mellark has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Raymond Yacht.
Mellark slaps away a takedown attempt from Yacht, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Mellark is looking to clinch.
Yacht swings away with a leg kick that misses.
Mellark tries to clinch there but Yacht circles away.
Yacht fails to land with a series of punches.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Yacht throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Yacht rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Mellark moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Mellark connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.

Yacht misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Yacht throws a sloppy head kick and Mellark moves out of range easily.

Mellark clinches with his opponent.
Yacht tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Mellark just stands there and leans against the cage.
Yacht tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Yacht jumps guard but Mellark stands there with Yacht around his waist. Yacht gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Yacht looking to hit a scissor sweep but Mellark is one step ahead there.

Yacht not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Mellark's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Mellark wants to clinch.
Yacht keeps the fight on the outside.
Yacht takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Yacht shoots in for a takedown but Mellark shows good takedown defense.

Raymond Yacht is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Mellark throws a leg kick but Yacht sees it coming and moves out of range.

Nice uppercut lands for Mellark. That snapped Yacht's head back.

Raymond Yacht seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Mellark tries to close the distance and clinch but Yacht swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Yacht tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Mellark connects with a good right hand that stumbles Yacht. Yacht circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Yacht tries to score a power double leg takedown but Mellark sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Yacht somewhat.
Peeta Mellark is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Mellark fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Yacht, pushing him back against the cage.

Yacht ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Yacht no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Yacht wants to sweep here but Mellark controlling him for the moment.
Mellark's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Mellark knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Yacht on the ground.

Yacht manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Mellark manages to get himself to full guard.

Mellark avoids the head kick by Yacht.

Yacht dives in and grabs Mellark's left leg, looking for a takedown. Mellark pushes down on Yacht's head and hops out.
Mellark tries to clinch there but Yacht circles away.
Yacht throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Mellark counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Mellark is looking to clinch but Yacht is avoiding it.

Yacht shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Mellark manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Yacht passes into half guard.

Yacht is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Mellark doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Yacht.
Yacht takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Yacht is looking to advance position but Mellark won't allow it.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Yacht in particular looking to stall.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Mellark is looking for a sweep. Yacht is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Yacht throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Yacht trying to mount his opponent but Mellark defends it.

Mellark is defending against the submission attempts here by Yacht.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Yacht shoots in looking for a takedown. Mellark tries to sprawl out of it but Yacht keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Mellark manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Mellark displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Yacht.

Yacht takes one on the chin but keeps coming.

Yacht closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Yacht lands in his opponent's guard.

Mellark is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Yacht is looking to control Mellark's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Yacht avoid being mounted?

Peeta Mellark is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Yacht has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Mellark is working away from the top position though.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Yacht is trying to get back to full guard.
Raymond Yacht has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
