PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Spencer Coffin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Scott Valentino (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Coffin comes to the cage accompanied by Spicy McHaggis Jig. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Spencer Coffin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Scott Valentino!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Stewart Dunkirk and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Coffin stuffs the takedown attempt from Valentino. Valentino gets slowly back to his feet.

Valentino looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Coffin!
Coffin really wants to buck Valentino off and get back to his feet.

Valentino is going olschool here, as he tries to force Coffin to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Coffin shrugs it off.
Coffin wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.

Valentino has hold of Coffin's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Coffin manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Valentino thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!

Coffin trying desperately to get to his feet.
Valentino throws some wild stikes that Coffin manages to avoid easily.
Valentino tries to control but Coffin wriggling away.
Coffin is trying to stand.
Valentino landing shots from mount.

Valentino is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Coffin is surviving well by controlling Valentino's body position as best he can.
Coffin is breathing heavily.

Valentino is standing up, even though he is in mount.
Valentino shoots for a double leg takedown but Coffin sprawls well. He's pushed Valentino's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Valentino dodges the punch combination from Coffin.
Valentino misses with a head kick.
Valentino tests Coffin's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Valentino tries to score a power double leg takedown but Coffin sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Valentino somewhat.
Spencer Coffin has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Scott Valentino.
Horrible takedown by Valentino or perhaps it was just good defense by Coffin which made him look bad.
Valentino is trying hard to land a takedown here. Coffin sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Coffin displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Valentino.
A combination from Coffin does no damage.
Valentino dives in and grabs Coffin's left leg, looking for a takedown. Coffin pushes down on Valentino's head and hops out.
Thud! ouch! good body kick from Coffin - that will leave a mark!

Coffin throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Valentino.
Spencer Coffin seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Coffin cracks Valentino with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Coffin slaps away a takedown attempt from Valentino, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Coffin lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Valentino backs up against the cage.
Coffin throws a sloppy head kick

and Valentino counters by clinching up.
Coffin gets underhooks to prevent Valentino's takedown attempt.

Valentino manages to break the clinch.
Valentino avoids the head kick by Coffin.
Coffin throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Valentino counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Coffin on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Coffin tries to get out of the position.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Valentino looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Valentino seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Coffin does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Valentino throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Coffin wants to get back to his feet.
Valentino has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Coffin is refusing to be controlled, as Valentino sits in half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Valentino prevents Coffin from standing back up.
Valentino has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Valentino has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Coffin's face.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Valentino looking to secure an arm triangle but Coffin defends it well.
Coffin squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Scott Valentino dominated that round.
That's time! Coffin's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



Coffin gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Valentino to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Valentino trying to control the position from guard on top but Coffin is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Coffin is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Valentino is controlling him.
Valentino chips away with some ground and pound.
Coffin keeping moving, preventing Valentino from controlling successfully.
Valentino stops Coffin from standing up.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Valentino works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Scott Valentino has got the better of the ground game so far.
Valentino working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Valentino trying to control the action but Coffin is working from the bottom.

Valentino decides to stand up.
Valentino misses with a takedown attempt - Coffin sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Valentino closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Coffin bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!

Coffin tries to keep at a distance but Valentino has taken the fight into the clinch.
Valentino fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Coffin's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Valentino has a takedown stuffed.
Spencer Coffin has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Scott Valentino.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Valentino is defended easily by Coffin.
Coffin throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Valentino counters with a shoot takedown. Coffin fights it but they end up in guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Valentino thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Valentino wants to control from the top but Coffin keeps moving.
Valentino won't allow Coffin to get back to his feet.
Valentino stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Coffin swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Coffin is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Valentino dives into side control.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Scott Valentino showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Well, if Valentino is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Valentino is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Valentino seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Valentino in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Coffin tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Valentino!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:27 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Scott Valentino!
