The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Van Conn shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Dell can do anything to dispel that myth.

Van Conn is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Dell doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Van Conn.
Van Conn prevents Dell from improving his position.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Dell keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Dell is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Van Conn is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Dell has managed to escape the submission attempt.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Dell can't escape the position.
Dell's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Dell is just holding on here. Van Conn manages to take his back.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Van Conn is defended easily by Dell.
Dell throws a shot to the body.

A jab-cross combination lands for Dell and sends Van Conn crashing to the mat! Dell follows him down to the mat - Van Conn regains half guard but he's not out of trouble yet!

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Dell stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
Oh Van Conn is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Dell dances in with a quick combination. Van Conn is being worked over with jabs and crosses. Oooh, a right straight from Dell snaps Van Conn's head back. Van Conn stumbles backwards against the cage. Dell steps forward and delivers a right cross that connects with Van Conn's jaw, simultaneously knocking him out and sending his mouthpiece into the crowd! There's a worthy souvenir for the fans. This one is over folks. Van Conn just didn't come prepared.
