PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Heddy Lamaar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shizuka Uesugi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lamaar's entrance music is Pledge To Hedley Lamaar. A fine choice. Heddy Lamaar has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Heddy Lamaar!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Shizuka Uesugi!
The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Tatsuya Matsuyama.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Lamaar shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Lamaar drops an elbow to the side of Uesugi's head.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Uesugi is trying to maintain the position but Lamaar is very close to passing his half guard.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Uesugi is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Lamaar winds up and cracks Uesugi with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Uesugi gets back to full guard.
Lamaar trying to control but Uesugi is working from the bottom.
Lamaar chips away with some ground and pound.
Uesugi looking to hit a scissor sweep but Lamaar is one step ahead there.

Uesugi lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Lamaar!

Uesugi looking for a guillotine from mount but Lamaar is having none of it.
Lamaar tries to hold on but Uesugi pushes him away.
Lamaar keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Uesugi takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Lamaar tries to hold on but Uesugi postures up.
Uesugi looking to control but Lamaar is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Lamaar keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

Uesugi moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Lamaar has worked his arm free - good work by Lamaar!
Lamaar is trying to control Uesugi's posture but Uesugi avoids it.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Lamaar is looking for a sweep.
Lamaar sneaks back into half guard.
Lamaar is not content to let Uesugi control the position.

Uesugi seems to be looking for submissions.
Lamaar trying to control from the bottom.
Lamaar regains full guard. Nicely done.

Uesugi thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Uesugi wants to control from the top but Lamaar keeps moving.
Uesugi trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Lamaar shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Lamaar showed some decent athleticism there.
Uesugi wants to control but Lamaar is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Lamaar working over Uesugi with some ground and pound. Uesugi looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.

Lamaar looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Lamaar is keen to just control but Uesugi is a slippery customer.
Uesugi preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.
Lamaar prevents Uesugi from improving his position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Heddy Lamaar dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


A head kick misses from Lamaar.
Uesugi shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Lamaar counters with a shoot takedown. Uesugi fights it but they end up in guard.

Uesugi working for a triangle but Lamaar defends it easily.
Lamaar lands a couple of elbows.
Uesugi not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Uesugi keeping moving, preventing Lamaar from controlling successfully.

Uesugi looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Lamaar drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Lamaar jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Lamaar has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Uesugi is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Lamaar is aware though and is defending well.
Lamaar is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Lamaar lands a couple of digs.
Uesugi preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Lamaar not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Uesugi bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Lamaar's guard.

Lamaar is trying to maintain the position but Uesugi is very close to passing his half guard.
Uesugi wants to take a breather but Lamaar is having none of it.

Uesugi is looking for a kimura here.
Uesugi is breathing heavily.
Uesugi is trying to control the action in half guard but Lamaar is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Lamaar is positioning himself well to prevent Uesugi advancing to mount.
Lamaar slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Lamaar pulls Uesugi in close to prevent any damage.

Heddy Lamaar overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Uesugi is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Uesugi is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Uesugi is trying for a kimura here. Lamaar looks like he's in a lot of pain... and he's tapping out! Uesugi wins by kimura!
