PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between DC Quick (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rigor Mortis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, DC Quick!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Rigor Mortis!
The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, Reed Andrews and Joseph Jones.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Quick shoots in and bounces Mortis off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Mortis working a defensive guard here.

Mortis has his foot on Quick's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Quick works his way back into a safe position though.

Mortis looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Quick is pushing down on Mortis's leg trying to pass to half guard. Mortis is fighting to maintain full guard but Quick has managed to sneak the leg through.
Mortis is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Mortis manages to escape and get back to his feet!
Mortis fails in his attempt to clinch.
Quick tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Mortis swivels and escapes.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Mortis throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Quick changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Mortis looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Quick wants to lay and pray for a moment but Mortis keeps working.

Quick decides to stand back up.

Quick scores a takedown into full mount!
Mortis is looking to improve his position but Quick isn't that keen on the idea.
Mortis tries to hold on but Quick pushes him away.
Mortis is trying to keep from getting into a worse position than he's already in but Mortis is working away and isn't letting himself get tied up.
Mortis holds on for dear life, controlling Quick's posture momentarily.
Mortis throwing punches from his back but nothing is landing.
Mortis looks gassed!

Mortis is squirming around, avoiding Quick's attempts to control the action.
Mortis is desperately trying to improve his position but Quick has a good base and remains in mount.
Mortis throwing hammer fists to the chest of Quick. What's that going to do exactly?

Quick is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Mortis can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Mortis working to try and regain half guard.
Mortis bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
Quick looking to control.

Quick keeping moving, preventing Mortis from controlling successfully.

Mortis gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Mortis shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Mortis showed some decent athleticism there.
Mortis wants to free his trapped foot but Quick is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Quick looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mortis not doing much here.
Quick gets back to full guard.

Mortis looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Quick keeping moving, preventing Mortis from controlling successfully.

Quick throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.

Quick looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that DC Quick will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Mortis fails with the takedown

and Quick counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Mortis!
Quick sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!

Quick with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Mortis is looking to improve his position.
Quick throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Quick is thwarting Mortis's attempts to control the position.
Mortis tries to roll over but Quick keeps him under control.

Mortis looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
DC Quick overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Mortis wants to improve his position but Quick is controlling well.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Quick stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Mortis to get to his feet.
Mortis tries to grapple but his opponent circles

so Quick counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Mortis controls Quick momentarily but Quick frees himself.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Mortis is on top in guard.
Mortis forces his way into half guard.
Quick is staying active underneath Mortis, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Mortis is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Mortis not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Mortis wants to pass the guard but Quick is defending well.
Quick gets full guard.
Mortis wants to control from the top but Quick keeps moving.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Mortis postures up in Quick's guard and throws a big left but Quick blocks it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Quick not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Mortis stands up and waves to Quick to follow him.
Mortis misses with a few strikes there.
Mortis gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Quick counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Mortis is lucky that one didn't land flush.

Quick bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Quick trying to control the position but Mortis is working away.
Quick tries to advance to mount but can't.
Quick moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

DC Quick dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!



Quick forces Mortis back against the cage and clinches.
Mortis managing to block the knees to the body from Quick.
Mortis is pressed up against the cage. Quick has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Mortis down to the mat. Mortis avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Mortis misses with a takedown attempt

and Quick counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Quick working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Quick seems to be working for a kimura but Mortis defends the submission attempt.
Mortis works his way to full guard. Good work.
Quick wants to control from the top but Mortis keeps moving.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Mortis has his feet on Quick's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
Mortis tries to clinch but fails miserably

so Quick counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Mortis looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Mortis working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Quick.

Mortis is looking for a triangle here but Quick uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Mortis manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Mortis is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Quick's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Quick's back!
Quick trying to control the position but Mortis manages to sink in the hooks.
Quick is defending well here and trying to improve his position.
Quick avoids the strikes from Mortis.
Mortis slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.

Mortis is working hard for the rear naked choke here.

Mortis working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet.
Mortis is looking to control Quick but Quick is wriggling around and keeping busy.
Mortis is trying to stick to Quick's back but Quick is turning into Mortis. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Mortis's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Quick.

Mortis looking for a guillotine here but Quick defends easily.
Mortis wants to control but Quick passes easily into half guard.
Mortis makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Mortis.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Mortis has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Quick should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Mortis has tightened it up now! Quick should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
