The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fickett fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
A big left from Fickett misses.

Pomfrey feints and as Fickett raises his hands in defense, Pomfrey changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Fickett throws his legs up looking for a submission but Pomfrey uses it to pass to side control.
Fickett tries to improve position but can't.
Fickett is trying to buck Pomfrey off.
Fickett trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.

Pomfrey tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Fickett wants to control but Pomfrey postures up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Fickett is looking for a sweep.

Pomfrey is looking to take a break and control but Fickett is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Fickett is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Pomfrey has just dragged him back down to the mat.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Fickett tries to bum rush Pomfrey with a series of wild strikes but Pomfrey uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Fickett fails with the takedown

and Pomfrey counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Fickett is breathing heavily.

Pomfrey drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Pomfrey jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Pomfrey controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Pomfrey distracts Fickett with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
