PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Filipe Jonnes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and john davy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). davy has chosen Greenday - American Idiot as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

davy rushes Jonnes and presses him up against the cage.
Jonnes prevents the takedown attempt.

davy escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Jonnes shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says davy as he avoids it easily.

davy closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - davy lands in his opponent's guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
davy won't allow Jonnes to get back to his feet.
Jonnes tries to land a sweep but no joy.

davy fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Jonnes, pushing him back against the cage.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

davy throws a big right hand but he misses and hits the mat. Ouch.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Jonnes throws a half hearted mid kick.

davy shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Jonnes's guard.
davy slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
You get the feeling that davy really doesn't like being in this position too much.

davy tries to lock up and control but Jonnes gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
john davy is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Jonnes lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

john davy comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well davy has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
