PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jon Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ben Alkofer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the ring it seems that Jon Jones has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Jon Jones seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jon Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ben Alkofer!
The judges for this bout are Aleksei Zolotukhin, Sergei Dronov and Aleksandr Martynov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Jones closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Alkofer regains half guard.
Jones thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Jones is looking for a kimura here.
Alkofer wants to improve his position but Jones is controlling well.
Jones wants to take a breather but Alkofer is having none of it.

Jones is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Jones has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Alkofer avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Jones.
Alkofer is looking to escape.

Jones is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Alkofer tries to get to full guard but Jones has control of the leg.

Jones wants to lay and pray for a moment but Alkofer keeps working.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Jones circles away from the clinch attempt.

Alkofer gets caught flat footed, as Jones shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Jones trying to control but Alkofer is working from the bottom.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Jones won't allow Alkofer to get back to his feet.
Jones postures up in Alkofer's guard and throws a big left but Alkofer blocks it.

Jones postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Alkofer is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Jones, into his guard.

Jones is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Jones throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Alkofer escapes and throws Jones's legs to the side, diving into side control!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Alkofer working away.
Alkofer tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
Alkofer trying to control the position but Jones is working away.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Jones takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Jones pushes Alkofer away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Alkofer gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Jones is trying to get back to half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Alkofer working away.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Alkofer tries to clinch but Jones is having none of it.

Jones feints and as Alkofer raises his hands in defense, Jones changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Alkofer wants to stand and escape but Jones is having none of it.
Alkofer keeping moving, preventing Jones from controlling successfully.
Alkofer looks gassed!
Alkofer is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Jones is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Alkofer is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Alkofer has escaped and now he's on top!
Alkofer pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Jones is keeping the position for now.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Jones has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Alkofer can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Alkofer trying to control but Jones is working from the bottom.

Jones looking for a guillotine here but Alkofer defends easily.

Jones has his foot on Alkofer's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Alkofer works his way back into a safe position though.

Jones is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Alkofer is aware though and is defending well.
Jones bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Alkofer's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jon Jones dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Alkofer gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Jones decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Alkofer's guard.

Jones thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Jones decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Alkofer, up you get!
Alkofer moves in looking to clinch but Jones pushes him off.
Alkofer wants to clinch but Jones slips to the side

and Jones counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Alkofer!
Alkofer wants to hold on but Jones pushes him away.
Jones landing strikes, looking to finish!
Alkofer is breathing heavily.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Jones in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.

Jones with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

Jones goes for an armbar but Alkofer turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Alkofer.

Jones has his feet on Alkofer's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
Alkofer wants to clinch

and Jones counters with a takedown into side control.
Alkofer is looking for a sweep.
Jones cracks Alkofer with a big right hand but Alkofer just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

Jones thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Jones lands a nice forearm strike.

Jones is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Alkofer is trying to escape and Jones transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Alkofer is forced to tap! Nice work there by Jones! Very nice indeed!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:18 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Jon Jones!
