The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ninja closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Ninja trying to control the action but Vera is working from the bottom.

Ninja looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Ninja wants to control but Vera is keeping him busy.

Ninja thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Vera is trying to buck Ninja off.

Ninja working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Ninja shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Vera sprawls well. Vera wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Ninja gets slowly back to his feet.

Vera tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Ninja wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Ninja is trying to control. Vera wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Vera is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Vera has one foot on Ninja's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Vera wants to clinch up but Ninja keeps it at a distance.

Vera throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Ninja.

Vera throws a leg kick but Ninja checks it.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Vera loads up on a big right hand but Ninja slips the punch.

Vera seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
