PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Juan Carro (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Old Greg (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Greg has chosen Love Games as his entrance music. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Juan Carro!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Old Greg!
The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, John Kavanagh and Anthony Taglia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Carro keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Carro throws a looping overhand right but Greg ducks down to avoid it.
Carro stalks Greg and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Greg's face. Greg staggers backwards, shaken.
Juan Carro seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Greg chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Carro can pounce on him.
Carro fails with the takedown.
Greg closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Carro is looking to clinch.
Greg lands with a cross.
Good standup being displayed there by Carro as he connects with a hook.
Carro misses with a two punch combination.
Carro throws a jab but it's blocked by Greg.
Carro is looking to clinch.
Greg slaps away a takedown attempt from Carro, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Greg tries to score a power double leg takedown but Carro sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Greg somewhat.
Carro lands with a cross.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Greg looks to land a right hand but Carro moved out of range.
Carro misses with a straight left.
A punch combination from Greg misses.
Carro fails with the takedown

and Greg counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Juan Carro. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Greg drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Carro dives on top into guard.

Greg is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Greg passes into side control, despite Carro's attempt to control the position.

Carro is trying to control Greg's posture but Greg avoids it.
Carro sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Greg working over Carro with some ground and pound. Carro looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.

Greg passes the guard and advances to mount!

Greg avoids the attempt from Carro to control.
Carro is squirming around, avoiding Greg's attempts to control the action.
Carro is bucking up trying to escape but Greg cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Carro tries to hold on but Greg pushes him away.

Greg moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Carro has worked his arm free - good work by Carro!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Carro manages to work his way to half guard, despite Greg's best efforts.
Greg takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Greg slows the pace down in half guard.
Carro won't allow Greg to pass to mount.
Greg is nestled in close to Carro, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Greg thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Old Greg dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Greg checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Carro moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.

Greg shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Greg trying to control from half guard but Carro is working away.
Greg passes to side control.
Carro sneaks back into half guard.

Greg is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Carro defends it well.

Carro throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Greg seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Greg thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Carro's head.
Carro wants to control but Greg is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Carro is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Greg pulls his head out easily.
Greg working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Carro is refusing to be controlled, as Greg sits in half guard.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Greg is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Carro is in trouble now - Greg has advanced to mount!
Carro gets back to half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Carro is trying to maintain the position but Greg is very close to passing his half guard.

Carro tries to kick Greg off but Greg keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Greg is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Carro is just riding it out for now. Greg eventually gives up the hold.
Carro is not content to let Greg control the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Greg looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Carro with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Greg lands a nice short elbow.
Carro wants to get back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Old Greg showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!


Greg tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Carro was well out of range. Poor timing from Greg.

Greg throws a nice looking combination but Carro bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

and Greg counters with a nice double leg into side control. Carro won't be happy with that.

Greg swings around for an armbar but Carro sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Greg's guard.

Greg bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Carro's guard.

Greg distracts Carro with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Greg postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Carro is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Greg, into his guard.
Greg has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Carro wants to control from the top but Greg keeps moving.

Greg manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Carro manages to get himself to full guard.
Juan Carro has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Greg slips nicely into half guard.
Greg drops an elbow to the side of Carro's head.
Greg seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Carro does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Greg seems to be working for a kimura but Carro defends the submission attempt.
Greg takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Greg is looking for a kimura here.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Carro wants to improve his position but Greg is controlling well.
Old Greg has got the better of the ground game so far.
Greg is trying to control. Carro wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Greg is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Carro has managed to free his arm - good work.
Greg thows a huge punch but Carro dodges it nicely.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Greg with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Carro to score with a decent uppercut.
Carro throws a leg kick but Greg checks it.
Carro misses with a head kick.

and Greg counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Carro's guard now.
Greg wants to pass the guard but Carro is keeping the position.

Carro had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Greg defends it easily.

Carro is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

And that's the end of the fight!
Old Greg comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Greg winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
