PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Keith Gouveia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kokushi Muso (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Muso has chosen Here we Go as his entrance music. Keith Gouveia has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Keith Gouveia!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Kokushi Muso!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, Steve Montenegro and Lou da Vinci.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gouveia tries to bum rush Muso with a series of wild strikes but Muso uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Muso is looking to clinch.
Gouveia swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Muso closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Gouveia to the mat! Gouveia manages to get full guard.
Gouveia is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Muso stops Gouveia from standing up.
Gouveia knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Muso on the ground.

Muso thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Gouveia wants to stand but Muso is controlling the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gouveia preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Muso stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Gouveia swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Muso has gone for a leg lock! Gouveia slips out almost immediately though and dives into Muso's guard.
Gouveia pushing down on Muso's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Gouveia works his way into side control.
Muso should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Gouveia lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Muso down.
Muso is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Gouveia is controlling him well.

Gouveia looks up at the clock and then as Muso takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Gouveia smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Muso tries to clinch up but Gouveia circles away and keeps his distance.

and Muso counters with a big head kick but Gouveia shrugs it off.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Gouveia throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

so Muso counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Muso trying to control but Gouveia is working from the bottom.
Muso wants to stand but Gouveia has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Muso trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Muso wants to control from the top but Gouveia keeps moving.

Muso stands and steps away. Gouveia gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Muso drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Gouveia is letting Muso control him for a moment.
Muso landing strikes.

Muso in side control, throwing shots but Gouveia defends.

Muso stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Muso forces Gouveia back against the cage and clinches.
Muso creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Gouveia's defenses.
Muso lands a nice elbow.
Muso manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
Muso unloads a knee to the mid-section.
Muso prevents Gouveia from breaking the clinch.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Muso escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Muso closes the distance and pushes Gouveia back into the cage.

Gouveia is not content to let Muso control the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kokushi Muso dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Muso shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Gouveia misses with a double jab

and Muso counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Gouveia!
Gouveia bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
Muso looking to hit a scissor sweep but Gouveia is one step ahead there.

Muso decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Gouveia, up you get!

The fight stays on the outside here - Muso looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Gouveia tries to roll over but Muso keeps him under control.
Muso throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Muso stands up and beckons Gouveia to join him on the feet.

and Muso counters with a shoot takedown. Gouveia fights it but they end up in guard.
Muso postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Muso is in close to Gouveia's body, working some short punches and elbows.

Muso decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Gouveia, up you get!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

and Muso holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Muso gets control of Gouveia's arms and successfully pulls guard. Muso will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

and Muso counters with a nice double leg into side control. Gouveia won't be happy with that.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Muso wants to lay and pray for a moment but Gouveia keeps working.

Muso looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

Muso has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Gouveia doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Muso counters with a body kick that stops Gouveia in his tracks momentarily.
Gouveia throws a left and a right that both miss

and Muso counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kokushi Muso showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!



Muso gets the takedown into side control.
Muso is looking to take a break and control but Gouveia is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Muso has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Gouveia parries the strikes from Muso easily there. Muso is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Gouveia to escape.

The ground and pound from Muso seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.

Muso tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Muso has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Gouveia is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Muso off and has taken his back!
Gouveia is striking well from the back but Muso escapes and manages to control the positon and works his way to half guard. A much better position - the crisis is over for the time being.
Muso slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Gouveia throwing strikes but missing.
Gouveia wants to pass the guard but Muso is keeping the position.

Muso wriggles free and stands up.

Muso gets a clinch.
Muso just leaning against Gouveia, taking a breather.
A frustrated look appears on Gouveia's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Muso lands a knee to the body.
Muso displaying some good clinch control by pressing Gouveia up against the cage.
Muso is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Gouveia is defending well for now.

Muso ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Muso no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Gouveia is looking to advance position but Muso has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

Muso lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

Gouveia is squirming around, avoiding Muso's attempts to control the action.

Gouveia is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.
Muso looking to finish Gouveia with some ground and pound. This is bad for Gouveia!
Kokushi Muso is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Muso looking to control and managing it successfully.
Muso postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Gouveia looks a forlorn figure.

And that's the end of the fight!
Kokushi Muso comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Muso has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
