Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Sydney Fields (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kenji Okabe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kenji Okabe has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Sydney Fields!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kenji Okabe!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Gwen Towbar and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Okabe closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Okabe wants to control but Fields is keeping him busy.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Okabe is working for a kimura but Fields is defending it quite comfortably.
Okabe is trying to control the action in half guard but Fields is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Fields moves into full guard.
Fields keeping moving, preventing Okabe from controlling successfully.
Fields not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Okabe trying to control but Fields is working from the bottom.

Fields is looking to sweep but instead, Okabe has passed into half guard.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Fields pushes Okabe off and gets back to his feet.
Fields throws a right hand that Okabe ducks under and follows up with a left that Okabe also avoids with ease.
Okabe defending well as Fields loads up on a big left hand.
Fields tries to close the distance and clinch up but Okabe swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Fields takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Nice uppercut there from Okabe.
Fields leaves Okabe with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Okabe shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Fields defends it nicely.
Sydney Fields seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Nice body kick there by Fields.
Fields tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Fields fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Okabe manages to avoid it.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Okabe.
Sydney Fields has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kenji Okabe.
Okabe bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Fields throws a sloppy head kick and Okabe moves out of range easily.

Okabe decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Fields tries to roll over but Okabe keeps him under control.
Okabe wants to control but Fields is keeping him busy.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Fields has Okabe up against the ropes in a clinch.
Okabe takes an elbow to the forehead.

Fields wants the takedown. Okabe is fighting it off but Fields persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Okabe's guard against the ropes.
Okabe can't keep his opponent in guard - Fields advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Okabe tries to roll over but Fields keeps him under control.

Okabe looking for submissions off his back.
Fields prevents Okabe from improving his position.
Okabe gets back to full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Fields connects with a couple of short punches.
Fields stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Okabe swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Okabe escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Fields gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Okabe had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Fields defends it easily.
Okabe is breathing heavily.
Okabe keeping moving, preventing Fields from controlling successfully.

Okabe is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Fields defends well.

Fields would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Okabe misses with a straight left.
Okabe throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Okabe rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Fields moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Horrible takedown by Okabe or perhaps it was just good defense by Fields which made him look bad.
Okabe avoids the body shot from Fields.
Okabe closes the distance and clinches up with Fields, looking for a takedown. Okabe pushes Fields against the ropes but Fields circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Fields ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Okabe moves away.
Fields fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Okabe avoids it really well and circles away.
Okabe will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Sydney Fields has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kenji Okabe.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Fields throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

and Okabe counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Fields manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Okabe manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Fields scores with a couple of good hammerfists.

Fields is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Fields lands a nice short elbow.
Okabe wants to get back to full guard but Fields has passed into side control.

Okabe is looking to improve his position but Fields isn't that keen on the idea.

Fields looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Okabe tries to hold on but Fields postures up.
Okabe is squirming around, avoiding Fields's attempts to control the action.

That's time! Fields's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Fields tries to close the distance and clinch but Okabe swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Okabe shoots for a takedown but Fields saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Sydney Fields is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Okabe waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Fields.

and Fields counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Okabe thinking.
Okabe misses with a takedown attempt - Fields sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

so Okabe counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Okabe thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Okabe is absolutely dripping with sweat - he looks exhausted.
Fields manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Okabe manages to get himself to full guard.
Fields is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Fields drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Okabe manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Fields has Okabe in his guard.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Fields is looking to stand up but Okabe isn't so interested in that idea.

Okabe is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Okabe drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Okabe jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Fields throws a big shot that misses.
A head kick misses from Fields.

Kenji Okabe dominated that fourth round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Okabe gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Fields counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Okabe misses with a hook. Fields ducked under it nicely.
Fields darts in trying to clinch

and Okabe counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Fields has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Okabe can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Both of our modern day gladiators look out of it here - an gruelling 5 rounds of action taking it's toll on them, no doubt.
Okabe trying to control the position from guard on top but Fields is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Fields is looking to stand up but Okabe isn't so interested in that idea.

Sydney Fields has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Kenji Okabe is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Fields falls off balance throwing a combination
and Okabe counters with a nice uppercut.
Fields is looking to wear down Okabe with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.

Okabe shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Okabe seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Fields does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Still in half guard, Okabe seems content to control.

Fields working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Okabe doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Okabe manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

And that's the end of the fight!
Kenji Okabe comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Okabe has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
