PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tank Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gorge St Pierre (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Johnson comes to the cage accompanied by Do It. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Gorge St Pierre was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
St Pierre misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Johnson scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Johnson scores with a couple of short elbows.
Johnson is staying tight to St Pierre's torso, preventing him from escaping.
St Pierre is not content to let Johnson control the position.
St Pierre is trying to buck Johnson off.
Johnson is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

Johnson stands up.

St Pierre shoots in but Johnson avoids the takedown attempt easily.

St Pierre gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Johnson to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Johnson's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Johnson wants to control from the top but St Pierre keeps moving.
St Pierre avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

St Pierre manages to escape and get back to his feet.
St Pierre rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Johnson moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Johnson moves into the clinch.
Johnson prevents St Pierre from breaking the clinch.
St Pierre is trying to force a seperation but Johnson has the dominant position.
St Pierre is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Tank Johnson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gorge St Pierre.
A frustrated look appears on St Pierre's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Johnson controlling the action here for a moment.

Johnson lands a shot to the body.
Johnson drops down looking for an ankle pick but St Pierre pulls his leg out and moves away.
Johnson misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Johnson is defended easily by St Pierre.
Horrible takedown by Johnson or perhaps it was just good defense by St Pierre which made him look bad.

St Pierre shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. St Pierre showed some decent athleticism there.

Johnson manages to escape and get back to his feet!

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

St Pierre tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Johnson.

Johnson is trying to maintain the position but St Pierre is very close to passing his half guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Tank Johnson will probably get the nod.
That's time! Johnson's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



Johnson feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
St Pierre misses with a jab, cross combination.

Johnson fails with the takedown.

and Johnson counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Johnson will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Johnson wants to control from the top but St Pierre keeps moving.

Johnson's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

St Pierre is looking to stand up but Johnson isn't so interested in that idea.
St Pierre can't keep his opponent in guard - Johnson advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Johnson shoots in for a takedown but St Pierre shows good takedown defense.

St Pierre closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Johnson is looking for a sweep. St Pierre is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

St Pierre is trying to control the action in half guard but Johnson is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Johnson wants to improve his position but St Pierre is controlling well.

St Pierre stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Johnson to get to his feet.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
St Pierre throws a right and a left that Johnson avoids nicely.
Johnson goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.

Johnson drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Johnson has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
St Pierre struggling a bit here.

St Pierre wants to get back to his feet but Johnson drags him back down.
Johnson wants to lay and pray for a moment but St Pierre keeps working.
Johnson slows the pace down.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
St Pierre tries to escape but Johnson is in control.
Gorge St Pierre has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Tank Johnson is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
St Pierre shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Johnson counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Johnson slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Johnson seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down St Pierre for as long as he can get away with.

And that's the end of the fight!
Tank Johnson showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Johnson, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
