PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Old Bastard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Melanie Powers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Powers comes into a darkened arena with his song building. "The Way of the Fist" Five Finger Death Punch kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Old Bastard!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Melanie Powers!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Eliza Hachem and Skip Squint.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A head kick misses from Bastard.
Powers shoots in but Bastard avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Bastard lands a head kick. Powers smiles back at him and beckons him forward.

Powers drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Bastard gets back to half guard.
Powers drops an elbow to the side of Bastard's head.
Bastard moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Bastard is looking for a triangle here but Powers uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Powers scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Bastard to see if he's OK.
Powers postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Powers looks up at the clock and then as Bastard takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Powers smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Bastard gets back to half guard.
Bastard moves into full guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Powers throws a big right hand that misses.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Bastard wants to sweep here but Powers controlling him for the moment.
Bastard looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Powers puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Powers slips a nice elbow through Bastard's hands, connecting with Bastard's forehead.

Bastard had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Powers defends it easily.

Powers stands up from Bastard's guard - Powers perhaps looking for a knockout.

Powers pulls Bastard into guard.
Bastard pushes down on Powers's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Bastard wants to pass the guard but Powers is defending well.
Powers wants to get back to full guard.
Powers moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Bastard accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Powers pulls Bastard in close to prevent any damage.
Bastard pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Powers is keeping the position for now.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Powers is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Powers is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

Bastard wants to get up but he can't break Powers's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Powers manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Bastard bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Powers is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Bastard passes Powers's left leg - he's now in half guard.

Bastard is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Powers has managed to free his arm - good work.
Powers wants to control but Bastard is keeping busy.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Powers is trying to control but can't.

A close round but Melanie Powers will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Bastard changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Powers tries to avoid it but Bastard manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Powers to the ground. Powers escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Powers sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
Powers is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Bastard lands a high kick!

Powers decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Bastard taking some punishment here, with Powers in his half guard.
Bastard tries to roll over but Powers keeps him under control.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Powers connects with a nice short shot to Bastard's temple.

Powers seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Powers gets control of Bastard's arms and successfully pulls guard. Powers will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Powers holds on and takes a little breather.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Powers has a takedown stuffed.
A head kick misses from Bastard.
Powers shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Bastard pinned against the cage. Bastard gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Melanie Powers seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Bastard lands with a slapping head kick.

Bastard feints and as Powers raises his hands in defense, Bastard changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Powers is trying to keep Bastard in close.

Bastard drops back looking for a leg! Powers is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Powers manages to kick Bastard off! Bastard jumps back into Powers's guard.

Bastard thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Bastard drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Bastard jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Powers is on top in guard.
Powers is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Powers is in close to Bastard's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Bastard is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Bastard tries to strike from the bottom.

Bastard looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Powers trying to control the position from guard on top but Bastard is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Bastard looking for a guillotine here but Powers defends easily.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Powers scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Bastard is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Powers off and has taken his back!
Powers breaks Bastard's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.

Powers has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Bastard to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Powers is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Bastard pulls down on the head and he's put Powers to sleep! This one is all over!
