PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Amir Khan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alex James (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Alex James told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Amir Khan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Alex James!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A combination from James does no damage.
Khan throws a left and a right that both miss
and James counters with a flying knee. Nice.
A nice combination there by James.
Khan throws a lazy head kick
and James counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Khan thinking.
Some wild striking there from James.
James is looking to clinch.
James goes for a high kick. It partially lands.


It looks like Amir Khan has been cut.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Khan throws a right and a left that James avoids nicely.
Khan lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but James circles away quickly and effectively.
Khan throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and James moves into the clinch.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Still in the clinch, James scores with a nice short uppercut.

James escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
James lands a jab-cross combination.

James fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Khan, pushing him back against the cage.
Khan takes an elbow to the forehead.
James scores with an uppercut up the middle.

James's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Khan tries to clinch up
and James counters with a big head kick but Khan shrugs it off.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
James defending well as Khan loads up on a big left hand.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Khan closes the distance and clinches.

James breaks the clinch.
Khan defends well against a solid takedown attempt from James.
Khan misses with a combination

and James counters with a nice double leg into guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as James accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
James must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
James throwing strikes from guard but Khan blocks nicely.
Khan is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

James drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Khan dives on top into guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
James keeping moving, preventing Khan from controlling successfully.
Khan slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

James is working an open guard so Khan takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Khan throws a combination that misses

and James moves into the clinch.
James looks to throw an elbow but misses.
James softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage.
James scores with a nice hook to the head.
Khan is trying to break the clinch but James has him pressed against the cage.
James keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Khan's efforts to push away.
Khan wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but James has him pressed against the cage.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
James using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Khan has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
James doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Khan tries to break the clinch but James is controlling the position.
James tries to land a knee to the head but Khan blocks with his arms.
James lands with a short shot to the head.
James comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Alex James dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Amir Khan's cut.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Khan swings and misses with a shot to the body
and James counters with a two punch combo.
Khan fakes high and swings low for a body shot but James manages to avoid it.
Khan lands a nice hook to James's body. James takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
James swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Khan counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
James moves away from the strike by Khan.

Khan lands a left and a right that send James crashing to the mat, dazed. Khan thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!


James is rocked!


It looks like Alex James has been cut.
James is breathing heavily.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
James takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Khan lands a big right hand and follows it up with an uppercut. Oh and another big punch and a knee - James can't take much more of this! Another big shot to the jaw from Khan and James drops to the floor. Beaten and bloodied - he had enough there. A vicious beatdown by Khan.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Amir Khan!
