Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Brian Hopewell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jakobi Smithy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Smithy has chosen Freak on a Leash as his entrance music. Jakobi Smithy has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Brian Hopewell's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 1, fighting out of New York, Brian Hopewell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jakobi Smithy!
The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, Dean Styles and Franklyn Lucas.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smithy throws a nice looking combination but Hopewell bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Hopewell swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Smithy counters with a good low kick that Hopewell was not able to check.
Smithy misses with an attempted mid kick.
Hopewell lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Hopewell.

Smithy throws a left and a right that both miss
and Hopewell counters with a straight right hand.
Smithy lands a nice leg kick that just misses Hopewell's sensitive parts.
Hopewell throws a hook to the side of Smithy's head but Smithy sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Hopewell tries to bum rush Smithy with a series of wild strikes but Smithy uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Smithy shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Hopewell manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Smithy wants to pass the guard but Hopewell is keeping the position.

Hopewell has his foot on Smithy's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Smithy works his way back into a safe position though.
Smithy must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Smithy drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Smithy jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Hopewell is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Smithy is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Smithy accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Smithy is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Smithy got a little sloppy there for a moment and Hopewell has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Smithy has managed to get both his arms back between Hopewell's legs - danger averted.

Smithy drops back looking for a leg! Hopewell is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Hopewell manages to kick Smithy off! Smithy jumps back into Hopewell's guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Smithy postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Hopewell is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Smithy, into his guard.

Hopewell is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Smithy is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Smithy has escaped and now he's on top!
Hopewell wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Smithy is now in half guard.

Hopewell is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Smithy pulls his head out easily.

Jakobi Smithy showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Hopewell blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Smithy wants to break free but Hopewell has control.

No luck for Hopewell with that takedown attempt.

Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

Smithy lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Hopewell backs up against the cage.
Hopewell uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Smithy.

Smithy moves out of range of the body kick from Hopewell.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Smithy lands a head kick. Hopewell smiles back at him and beckons him forward.

Brian Hopewell is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Smithy doesn't manage to clinch there - Hopewell circles away.
Smithy throws a body kick that digs right into the meat.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Jakobi Smithy comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Smithy has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
