Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jose Cortez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mattew Justice (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jose Cortez has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jose Cortez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mattew Justice!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Eliza Hachem and Donatello Bradman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cortez closes this distance looking for a takedown but Justice circles away.
Cortez shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Justice as he jumps to the side.
Cortez is trying hard to land a takedown here. Justice sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jose Cortez. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Justice throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

and Justice counters with a shoot takedown. Cortez fights it but they end up in guard.
Justice must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

and Justice decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Cortez's guard.
Justice wants to stand but Cortez has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Cortez pulls Justice in to control the position.

so Justice counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Cortez is pulling down on Justice's head. It's preventing any offense from Justice, at least for the moment.

Cortez takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

and Justice counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Cortez's guard now.
Cortez bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Justice's guard.

Justice is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Cortez asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Justice really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Cortez. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Cortez thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Well Justice has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
