Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tom Sander (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hempii Sapponen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Tom Sander!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Hempii Sapponen!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Damien Edna and Eliza Hachem.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Sapponen shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Sapponen got a little sloppy there for a moment and Sander has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Sapponen has managed to get both his arms back between Sander's legs - danger averted.

Sander is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Sander trying to control the position.
Sander looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Sapponen wants to pass the guard but Sander is keeping the position.
Sapponen throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Sander works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Sapponen with a nice head shot there.
Sander is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Sapponen postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Sander can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Sapponen controls the pace.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Sapponen thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Sapponen has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Sapponen accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sander looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Sapponen stands and steps away. Sander gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Sapponen closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Sapponen lands in his opponent's guard.
Sapponen stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Sander swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Sapponen gets to his feet. Sander looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Sapponen gets the takedown into side control.
Sander is breathing heavily.

Sapponen tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Sapponen working the ground and pound but Sander is defending the strikes.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Sapponen misses with the ground and pound.
Sapponen working away.

Sapponen is working to tighten is grip on Sander's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Sander has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Sapponen is really squeezing tight and eventually Sander passes out! Sapponen breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:44 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Hempii Sapponen!
