PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Joe Rush (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Grand (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rush kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is The Egg-Walking Away . Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Joe Rush!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Mike Grand!
The judges for this bout are Saam Ante, Patrick Alders and Radbod Blank.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rush scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Grand doesn't seem bothered though.
Rush throws a body punch but Grand moves out of range.

Grand closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Rush is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Grand's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Grand's back!
Rush is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.
Rush controlling well, preventing Grand from escaping the position.
Rush lands a couple of good shots to his opponent's body and a final shot to the head. Good little attack there by Rush.
Rush controls the action.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Grand is defending well here and trying to improve his position.
Grand rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.
Rush prevents Grand from improving his position.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Rush connects with a nice short shot to Grand's temple.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Rush is thwarting Grand's attempts to control the position.
Well, if Rush is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Grand looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rush is figuring out what he wants to do next.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Joe Rush just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Grand scores with a three punch combo!
Rush missing with a left hand there. Grand was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Rush misses with a double jab.
Grand ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Rush is breathing heavily.
Grand takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Grand tries to clinch up but Rush circles away and keeps his distance.
Grand tries to clinch but Rush is having none of it.

Rush dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Grand misses with a combination
and Rush counters with a left to the body.
Rush looks to land a combination but Grand avoids it well.
Rush scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Rush connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Grand falls off balance throwing a combination
letting Rush counter with a right hand.
Grand walks into a straight right hand from Rush.
Grand takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.

and Grand counters with a shoot takedown. Rush fights it but they end up in guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Grand wants to stand but Rush has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Grand is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Rush is trying to control the position but Grand postures up.
Grand stops Rush from standing up.
Grand is stalling in the full guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Joe Rush will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Grand fails with the takedown
and Rush counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Grand has a takedown stuffed.
A decent looking cross lands there for Rush.
Rush throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Rush loads up on a big right hand but Grand slips the punch.
Rush lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.


It looks like Mike Grand has been cut.
Rush goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Grand takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Rush lands a jab.
Rush ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Grand moves away.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Rush looks to land a combination but Grand avoids it well.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Grand misses with a combination
and Rush cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Joe Rush is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Grand misses with a body shot.
Grand throws a series of punches but Rush avoids them all with ease.
Rush tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Grand was well out of range. Poor timing from Rush.
Rush lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.


Grand is rocked!
Rush lands with a jab that stuns his opponent. Grand is looking to close the distance but Rush sees it coming and throws a beautiful knee! Grand crumbles to the mat and that's all she wrote! Let's hope Grand is OK because that was naaaaaasty!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:34 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Knee). Joe Rush!
