PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Juan Rosillo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mark Penn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Rosillo might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Skillet - Hero. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Juan Rosillo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Mark Penn!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rosillo connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Penn throws out a loose jab but Rosillo uses good head movement to avoid it.
Penn is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Rosillo.
Penn misses with a hook. Rosillo ducked under it nicely.
Penn throws a hook but Rosillo blocks it.
Penn thows a body shot but no joy.
Rosillo walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Penn misses with a wild body shot.
Rosillo looks to land a combination but Penn avoids it well.
Penn moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Rosillo lands with a kick to the temple. Penn shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
Penn throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Rosillo on the side of the head.
Rosillo uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Penn.
A head kick by Penn misses
and Penn takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Rosillo fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Penn on the side of the head.

Rosillo darts in and clinches Penn up against the cage.
Penn has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Rosillo is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Penn is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

Rosillo taking a breather.
Penn is looking to break free of the clinch but Rosillo has double underhooks.
Rosillo is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.
Rosillo lands an uppercut.
Penn wants a takedown.
Penn tries to pull guard but Rosillo holds him up against the cage and eventually Penn drops back down to his feet.
Juan Rosillo has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mark Penn.
Penn is working for takedown but Rosillo is calmly controlling the position for now.

Penn ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Penn no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Rosillo wants to pass the guard but Penn is keeping the position.
Penn not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Rosillo postures up in Penn's guard and throws a big left but Penn blocks it.

Rosillo avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Penn looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Rosillo connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Rosillo, as that shot connected.
Rosillo throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.
Rosillo walks into a jab.
Penn looks to score with a jab to the body but Rosillo is just out of range.
Penn falls off balance throwing a combination
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.

Rosillo drives through and clinches with Penn against the cage.
Rosillo's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Penn looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Penn tries to pull guard but Rosillo holds him up against the cage and eventually Penn drops back down to his feet.
Penn tries for a takedown. No joy.
Rosillo prevents the takedown attempt.
Rosillo landing knees to the body. They look like they could hurt.

Penn wants to break the clinch but can't.

Penn jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Rosillo walks away with a smile on his face. Penn gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Penn goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
A telegraphed right hand from Penn misses the target.
Rosillo lands a head kick!
Rosillo throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Rosillo goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Penn swings away with a body shot that misses

and Rosillo counters by moving into the clinch.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Penn wants to break free but Rosillo has control.
Rosillo content to slow the pace in the clinch.
Penn has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Penn fails to pull guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Juan Rosillo will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Penn misses with a combination
and Rosillo counters with a three punch combo that has Penn backing up. Penn nods at Rosillo to acknowledge the strikes.
Rosillo thuds his right hand into Penn's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Penn fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Nice uppercut there from Rosillo.
Rosillo tests Penn's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Penn throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Rosillo lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Penn backs up against the cage.
Rosillo lunges at Penn with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Penn's hand.
Mark Penn seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Penn misses with a hook.
Penn misses with a double jab
and Rosillo counters with a one-two to the body.
Penn throws a big shot that misses.
Penn takes a kick to the side of the head.

Rosillo blocks a jab.
Rosillo looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Nice shot lands for Rosillo.
A left lands for Rosillo.

Rosillo moves into the clinch.

Rosillo lands a good knee to the midsection. Penn won't want to take too many of those.

Penn tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Rosillo just stands there and leans against the cage.

Penn manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Penn is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Rosillo has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Rosillo!
Rosillo wants to stand but Penn has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Rosillo won't allow Penn to get back to his feet.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Penn is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Rosillo is aware though and is defending well.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Penn is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Rosillo defends well.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Rosillo connects with a good right hand that stumbles Penn. Penn circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Juan Rosillo is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Horrible takedown by Penn or perhaps it was just good defense by Rosillo which made him look bad.
Penn is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Rosillo.

The crowd are getting pretty annoyed with Rosillo for his constant stalling in the clinch and are voicing their displeasure.

Penn drops down looking for an ankle pick but Rosillo pulls his leg out and moves away.
Rosillo throws out a powerful jab.

And that's the end of the fight!
Juan Rosillo showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Rosillo, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
