Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between hillbilly george (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Burroughs (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Burroughs has chosen Simple Man By Shinedown as his entrance music. hillbilly george had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 9 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, hillbilly george!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, John Burroughs!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Ian Loll and Elvis Blanc.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No joy there for george, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
No luck with that takedown attempt from george.
No luck for george with that takedown attempt.
george is looking to clinch but Burroughs is avoiding it.
george shoots in looking for a takedown. Burroughs tries to sprawl out of it but george keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Burroughs manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for hillbilly george. That's going to take a lot out of him.
george shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Burroughs as he jumps to the side.
hillbilly george seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
george will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Burroughs gets a takedown into half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Burroughs missing with the ground and pound from half guard.

Burroughs throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
george works his way to full guard. Good work.
Burroughs lands a couple of decent looking shots.
george looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Burroughs wants to stand but george has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

george looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Burroughs throws a big right hand that misses.
Burroughs really doesn't want to stay on the ground with george. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Burroughs drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and george dives on top into guard.
george wants to control from the top but Burroughs keeps moving.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Burroughs pulls george in close to prevent any damage.
george trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Burroughs not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Burroughs can do anything to dispel that myth.
george wanted to stand there but Burroughs had control of the position.
george wants to pass the guard but Burroughs is keeping the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Burroughs looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
george wants to get up but he can't break Burroughs's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
george shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Burroughs counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Burroughs.
Burroughs postures up.
Burroughs throws a strike but george rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Burroughs is pulling down on george's head. It's preventing any offense from george, at least for the moment.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
george pushes down on Burroughs's leg and manages to get into half guard.
george is trying to control the action in half guard but Burroughs is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Burroughs dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!



Burroughs shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
george's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
Burroughs scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Burroughs with a couple of short strikes.
george tries to reverse the position but Burroughs maintains control.
Burroughs lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
george wants to hold on but Burroughs pushes him away.
Burroughs with good strikes from the mount here!
george tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Burroughs lands a heavy elbow.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Burroughs prevents george from getting the reversal.
Burroughs cracks george with a big head shot that has him covering up instantly! He's rolled onto his side and the referee has seen enough - this one is aaaaaaaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:05 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). John Burroughs!
