PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Justyn Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Stephen Hansen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hansen is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Blood. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Justyn Smith!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Stephen Hansen!
The judges for this bout are Saam Ante, Paul Aken and Albert Achterberg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hansen shoots in looking for a takedown. Smith tries to sprawl out of it but Hansen keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Smith manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Hansen tries to keep at a distance but Smith has taken the fight into the clinch.
Smith tries to pull guard but Hansen holds him up against the cage and eventually Smith drops back down to his feet.
A frustrated look appears on Hansen's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Smith escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Hansen.

Smith shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Hansen tries to roll over but Smith keeps him under control.
Smith slows the pace down in half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Smith decides to stand and escape the position.

Hansen moves into range and clinches up with Smith.

Smith manages to break the clinch.
Smith tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Hansen was well out of range. Poor timing from Smith.
Smith connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Smith stuffs the takedown attempt from Hansen. Hansen gets slowly back to his feet.
Justyn Smith has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Stephen Hansen.

Smith feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Hansen is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Hansen looks gassed!

Smith stands up from Hansen's guard - Smith perhaps looking for a knockout.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Smith shoots in and bounces Hansen off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Smith will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Smith sitting in guard, not really doing much.

Hansen is trying to control the position but Smith postures up.
Hansen tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Smith's corner is telling him to maintain position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Smith seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Hansen for as long as he can get away with.
Smith's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Smith decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Smith lands a big head kick that sends Hansen tumbling to the mat! Smith takes a step backwards and waves Hansen back to his feet - he wants the finish!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Smith shoots and misses

and Hansen moves into the clinch.


It looks like Stephen Hansen has been cut.

Smith breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Smith fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Hansen looks to land a combination but Smith avoids it well.
Hansen throws a series of punches but Smith avoids them all with ease.
Smith thuds his shin into the meat of Hansen's side.
Smith shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Hansen as he jumps to the side.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Justyn Smith. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Smith takes the fight into the clinch.

Smith successfully pulls guard.
Smith manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Smith controlling from mount.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Smith breaks from Hansen's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Hansen keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Smith scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Hansen?
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Hansen can do anything to dispel that myth.
Hansen is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Hansen is looking to improve his position but Smith isn't that keen on the idea.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Smith controlling the position easily from mount.

Smith is working for a guillotine from mount but Hansen frees his head quite easily.
Smith looking to control and managing it successfully.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Hansen tries to buck Smith off but he can't manage it.
Smith content just to control the position here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The cut man is working on Stephen Hansen's cut.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Smith fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Hansen avoids it really well and circles away.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Smith.
Smith throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Hansen.

Smith moves into the clinch.
Hansen tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Smith smiles and moves away.
Justyn Smith seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Smith darts in and clinches Hansen up against the cage.

Smith pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Hansen lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Smith has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Smith and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Hansen takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Smith looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Smith pushes down on Hansen's leg and manages to get into half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Smith seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Hansen is trying to get back to full guard.
Hansen trying to control from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Smith is controlling the pace.
Smith working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Smith controlling the action here.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Justyn Smith just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Smith misses the shot to the body.
Smith scores with the left hand. Hansen knows he should have avoided that one.
Hansen keeps the fight on the outside.

Smith lands a big head kick that sends Hansen tumbling to the mat! Smith takes a step backwards and waves Hansen back to his feet - he wants the finish!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Smith scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Hansen doesn't seem bothered though.

Smith sends Hansen crashing to the mat with a devastating uppercut! Smith is motioning to the referee to let Hansen up. He wants to try and finish this one on the feet!


Hansen is rocked!


That has opened up Stephen Hansen's cut even more.
Both fighters circling slowly here as the pace drops. Hopefully one of them does someth.. OOOHHHH!!!! Smith throws an absolute beast of a head kick! Hansen is done! He's out cold, twisted and contorted up against the cage! Wow!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:39 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Head Kick). Justyn Smith!
