PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Fellipe Briz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mistah Chao (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Briz might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Paranoid. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Shigeki Sano and Kenichi Hosakawa.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chao defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Briz.
Briz throws a head kick but Chao moves out of range.
Briz slips a jab and a cross from Chao.
Chao throws a head kick that half lands.
Chao misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Briz.
Chao lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Chao tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Briz fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Briz gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Chao to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Chao stands and steps away. Briz gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Chao pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

and Chao counters with a shoot takedown. Briz fights it but they end up in guard.

Briz is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Chao has eaten all the pies!

Briz seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Chao for as long as he can get away with.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Chao has one foot on Briz's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.

Chao shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Briz napping and manages to drive through into side control!
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.

Chao decides to stand up, so the ref orders Briz to his feet.

Briz darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Chao is looking for a sweep. Briz is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Chao wants to get back to his feet.

Mistah Chao dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Briz closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Chao works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Briz wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Chao throws and elbow that misses. Briz uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Chao's guard. Nice move by Briz!

Chao pulls Briz in close to his closed guard and prevents Briz from doing any damage or advancing position.

Mistah Chao has got the better of the ground game so far.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Chao is looking to regain half guard here but Briz keeps moving and retains side control.
Briz remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Briz has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Briz has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Chao uses from the top position.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Chao holds on and takes a little breather.
