Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Brad Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Haka Maka (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Maka has chosen Island Music as his entrance music. Haka Maka has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Brad Johnson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Haka Maka!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Maka moves into the clinch.
Maka has had enough of the clinch but Johnson keeps him there for the moment.
Maka struggles to land a body shot inside as Johnson controls his hands.
Johnson landing knees to the head.

Maka breaks from the clinch.

Maka drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Maka trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Johnson is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Maka is controlling him.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Maka's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Maka postures up in Johnson's guard and throws a big left but Johnson blocks it.
Maka throws a big right hand that misses.
Maka trying to control the position from guard on top but Johnson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Johnson fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Johnson tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Maka counters by clinching up.
A frustrated look appears on Maka's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Maka is trying to break the clinch but Johnson is controlling him.
Johnson fails to pull guard.
Johnson trying to stall but Maka improves his position.
Johnson scores with a shoulder strike.
Maka tries to pull guard but Johnson holds him up against the cage and eventually Maka drops back down to his feet.

Maka drags the fight down to the ground.
Maka keeping moving, preventing Johnson from controlling successfully.

Maka escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Johnson gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Johnson stands up from Maka's guard - Johnson perhaps looking for a knockout.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Maka gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Johnson stalls.

Johnson pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Brad Johnson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Maka fails to land the takedown.
Maka connects with a jab.
Maka circles away from the clinch attempt

so Maka counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Maka won't allow Johnson to get back to his feet.

Maka drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Johnson dives on top into guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Johnson loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Maka keeping moving, preventing Johnson from controlling successfully.
Johnson slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Johnson trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Johnson not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Johnson tries to stand but Maka is controlling from the bottom.
Johnson tries to free his leg and advance position but Maka is retaining full guard.
Johnson trying to control but Maka is working from the bottom.
Johnson is breathing heavily.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Johnson wants to clinch but Maka slips to the side

and Maka counters by clinching up.
Johnson with an attempt at a knee that misses.
Maka is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Maka gets through Johnson's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
Johnson gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Maka.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Haka Maka dominated that round.

Johnson tries to clinch up
and Maka counters with a one-two to the body.
Johnson wants to clinch but Maka slips to the side

and Maka moves into the clinch.

Johnson decides to pull guard.
Maka trying to control the position from guard on top but Johnson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Maka looking to sit in guard and control but Johnson gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Maka is on top in guard.

Maka gets to his feet. Johnson looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Maka fails to land the takedown.
Maka scores with a body shot.
Johnson tries to clinch up

and Maka counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Maka.

Maka decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Johnson, up you get!
Maka throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Johnson's waist but Johnson gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Maka off to one side.
Maka throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.

Johnson scores with a leg kick.
Maka is breathing heavily.
Johnson darts in trying to clinch

so Maka counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Maka scoring with punches to the head and body.
Johnson is looking to stand up but Maka isn't so interested in that idea.
Maka trying to control the position from guard on top but Johnson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Maka sitting in guard, not really doing much.

Maka trying to control but Johnson is working from the bottom.
Johnson working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Maka.
Maka wants to control from the top but Johnson keeps moving.
Haka Maka has got the better of the ground game so far.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Horrible takedown by Johnson or perhaps it was just good defense by Maka which made him look bad.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Maka fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Johnson.

Maka rushes Johnson and presses him up against the cage.
Johnson misses with a knee strike.
Johnson tries to pull guard but Maka holds him up against the cage and eventually Johnson drops back down to his feet.
Johnson connects with a nasty looking knee right to Maka's face.
Maka wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Johnson avoiding damage as Maka throws knees to the body.
Maka is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Brad Johnson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Haka Maka.
Johnson throws a knee to the head but misses.
Johnson takes a shot to the head.
Maka blocks an elbow strike from Johnson.
Johnson gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Maka.
Johnson misses with the head strike.
Johnson has Maka pressed against the cage, preventing Maka from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Johnson is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Maka is defending well for now.

Haka Maka showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Johnson blocks a leg kick.
Johnson wants to clinch but Maka slips to the side

and Maka decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Johnson's guard.
Maka trying to control but Johnson is working from the bottom.
Maka stops Johnson from standing up.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Johnson has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Maka off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

and Maka counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Johnson's guard now.

Johnson utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Maka seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Maka wants to control from the top but Johnson keeps moving.

Maka has gone for a leg lock! Johnson slips out almost immediately though and dives into Maka's guard.

Maka had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Johnson defends it easily.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Maka is working an open guard so Johnson takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Johnson tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Maka cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Maka dives in and grabs Johnson's left leg, looking for a takedown. Johnson pushes down on Maka's head and hops out.
Maka circles away from the clinch attempt
and Maka counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Johnson takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Maka looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Johnson gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Maka to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Johnson is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Maka drops back, looking for a kneebar! Johnson looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Johnson looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Johnson!
Brad Johnson has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Johnson has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Maka is looking to clinch but Johnson is avoiding it.
Johnson darts in trying to clinch
and Maka counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Johnson tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Maka counters with a single leg into guard. Johnson didn't expect that.
Haka Maka is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Maka gets to his feet - Johnson follows without any prompting.

And that's the end of the fight!
Haka Maka comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Maka has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
