PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Angus McBasher (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Slippery Sam (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). McBasher comes to the cage accompanied by Biggest & the best - Clawfinger. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Angus McBasher!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Slippery Sam!
The judges for this bout are Illya Tyunina, Aleksandr Martynov and Viktor Lagutenko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sam digs a good hook to McBasher's body.
Sam blocks a head kick by McBasher.
Sam changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. McBasher tries to avoid it but Sam manages to keep hold of a leg and drag McBasher to the ground. McBasher escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Some bone on bone action there as Sam checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.

Sam feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
McBasher not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Sam won't allow McBasher to sweep him here.

McBasher is trying to stand up here but Sam is controlling him well.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Sam shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. McBasher defends it nicely.

Sam landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
McBasher is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Sam scores with a couple of nice shots.
Sam throws a strike but McBasher avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
McBasher looking to hit a scissor sweep but Sam is one step ahead there.
Sam throws and elbow that misses. McBasher uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Sam's guard. Nice move by McBasher!

Sam seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Sam really doesn't want to stay on the ground with McBasher. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
McBasher is looking to stand up but Sam won't let him.

Sam closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. McBasher did well to prevent Sam getting side control.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Sam lands a nice short elbow.

Well, if Sam is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
McBasher is trying to maintain the position but Sam is very close to passing his half guard.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
The fighters are battling for position here. McBasher manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Sam in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Sam wants to control from the top but McBasher keeps moving.
Sam makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Sam thows a big elbow that misses.
McBasher is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Sam wants to control from the top but McBasher keeps moving.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Slippery Sam dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Sam throws a strike but McBasher avoids it easily and moves to full guard.

Sam tries to pass to full mount but McBasher defends it.
Sam is keen to just control but McBasher is a slippery customer.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Sam is just content to waste time from the top position. McBasher takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

McBasher can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Sam controls the pace.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Sam stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. McBasher swivels though and keeps the full guard.

McBasher wants to stand but Sam has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
McBasher might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Sam pushes McBasher off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

McBasher misses with a low kick.
McBasher misses with a head kick.
The fight stays on the outside here - McBasher looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

McBasher clinches up with Sam and pushes him back against the cage.
Sam keeps control of McBasher as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Sam wants a takedown.

McBasher manages to break the clinch.

Sam closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming McBasher to the mat! McBasher manages to get full guard.

Sam seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

McBasher controls Sam momentarily but Sam frees himself.
McBasher wants to sweep but no luck.
Sam trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Sam throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as McBasher works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Samis looking to pass into half guard but McBasher pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now McBasher is in guard.

McBasher gets to his feet. Sam looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
McBasher lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
McBasher misses with a head kick.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Slippery Sam showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!



McBasher closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
McBasher lands a knee to the head.
Sam drops to a knee looking for a takedown but McBasher gets the underhooks and prevents it.
McBasher prevents a takedown attempt there.
McBasher gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Sam.
Angus McBasher has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Slippery Sam.

It looks like Slippery Sam has been cut.
McBasher wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

McBasher pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Poor strikes thrown by Sam there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
McBasher is really trying hard to get back to his feet.

Sam throws a wild left hand from mount and McBasher manages to wriggle his way back to half guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Sam is looking to advance position but McBasher won't allow it.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
McBasher tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Sam paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Sam takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
McBasher avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
McBasher tries for a takedown but Sam sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
McBasher tries to close the distance and clinch but Sam swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Sam closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
McBasher is trying to control but can't.
Sam thows a huge punch but McBasher dodges it nicely.
McBasher looks like he's trying to stand up.

McBasher tries to get to full guard but Sam has control of the leg.
McBasher wants to control but Sam is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Sam takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
McBasher regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Sam.
Angus McBasher has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Sam fails with a takedown attempt.
A slapping leg kick lands for McBasher.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Slippery Sam is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
McBasher wants to stand and escape but Sam is having none of it.

Slippery Sam comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Sam winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
