PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jose Aldo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Doctor Pepper (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Aldo comes into the arena with Wicket- Lil Evil blaring out of the sound system. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pepper throws a jab but it's blocked by Aldo.
Pepper throws a body punch but Aldo moves out of range.
Aldo ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Pepper fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Aldo manages to avoid it.
Pepper misses with an uppercut.
Aldo really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Pepper looks to land a right hand but Aldo moved out of range.
Aldo looks for a takedown but Pepper sprawls well.

Pepper wants to control but Aldo is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Aldo is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Pepper has managed to free his arm - good work.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Aldo throws a strike but Pepper avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
Pepper wants to sweep here but Aldo controlling him for the moment.
Pepper pulls Aldo in close to his closed guard and prevents Aldo from doing any damage or advancing position.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Aldo stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Pepper swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Aldo drops back, looking for a kneebar! Pepper looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Pepper looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Pepper!
Pepper working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Pepper is putting a hurting on Aldo here, landing some big shots from side control.
Pepper looks up at the clock and then as Aldo takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Pepper smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Pepper throwing strikes but Aldo manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control!

Aldo with the ground and pound but Pepper regains half guard under the barage of strikes.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Pepper can do anything to dispel that myth.

Aldo is working for a submission of some sort.
Aldo is breathing heavily.

Aldo looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Aldo drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Pepper manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Aldo has Pepper in his guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Doctor Pepper dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Pepper tries to close the distance and clinch up but Aldo swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Pepper throws a big shot that misses.
Pepper jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Aldo fails with the takedown.
Pepper swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Pepper misses with a wild combination.
Pepper tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Aldo was well out of range. Poor timing from Pepper.
Pepper looks to land a left hand but Aldo moved out of range nicely.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Aldo uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Pepper.
Aldo uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Pepper.
Doctor Pepper seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Aldo fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Pepper avoids it really well and circles away.
Pepper fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Pepper misses with a straight right.
Aldo closes the distance and clinches up with Pepper, looking for a takedown. Aldo pushes Pepper against the cage but Pepper circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jose Aldo. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Pepper fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Aldo moves away from the strike by Pepper.
Pepper throws an overhand right that lands on Aldo's shoulder, as Aldo tries to avoid the shot.
Pepper throws the left hand but Aldo avoids the punch easily.
Pepper is really struggling to land any decent head shots against his taller opponent.
Pepper swings and misses with a hook to the body.

and Pepper counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Pepper is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Aldo's half guard.

Pepper winds up and cracks Aldo with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Pepper stands up over Aldo, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Doctor Pepper showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Aldo has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Pepper avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Aldo has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Pepper is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Pepper gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Pepper seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Aldo moves into full guard.
Pepper in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Pepper is working Aldo over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Pepper throws and elbow that misses. Aldo uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Pepper's guard. Nice move by Aldo!

Doctor Pepper comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Pepper has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
