The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Fernandes.
Gabriel gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Fernandes counters with a single leg into guard. Gabriel didn't expect that.

and Gabriel counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Gabriel has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Gabriel wants to pass the guard but Fernandes is keeping the position.
Fernandes is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Gabriel stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Fernandes swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Gabriel is adopting a defensive guard.
Fernandes throws a strike but Gabriel rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Gabriel stands up over Fernandes, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Gabriel is looking to take a break and control but Fernandes is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Fernandes takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Fernandes tries to buck Gabriel off but Gabriel is having none of it.
Gabriel tries for a kimura but Fernandes is defending well.
Gabriel wants to lay and pray for a moment but Fernandes keeps working.
Fernandes dodges the ground and pound from Gabriel.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Fernandes closes the distance and clinches.
Fernandes jumps guard.
Fernandes controls Gabriel momentarily but Gabriel frees himself.
Fernandes is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Gabriel is aware though and is defending well.
Fernandes bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Gabriel's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Fernandes got a little sloppy there for a moment and Gabriel has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Fernandes has managed to get both his arms back between Gabriel's legs - danger averted.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Gabriel thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Gabriel has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Fernandes is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Gabriel.
Gabriel seems a little lost for a moment, as Fernandes dominates the positioning.

Gabriel is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.
Gabriel seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Fernandes for as long as he can get away with.
Gabriel gets his hands free as Fernandes looks to control.
Fernandes tries to roll but Gabriel sticks to his back.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Fernandes is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Gabriel.
Fernandes is in bad spot here.
Gabriel has got one arm under Fernandes's chin. This could be trouble... Fernandes trying to control the other hand but Gabriel gets it free and sqeezes tight - just a matter of time now! Yep, Fernandes has tapped out! The fight is over!
