The crowd seem to be enjoying Peterson's choice of entrance music: -. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kuunojuhani Laavalahti!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tex Peterson!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Tiny Johnson and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Peterson throws a body punch but Laavalahti moves out of range.
Laavalahti fails with an attempt to clinch.
The fight stays on the outside here - Laavalahti looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Laavalahti looks to throw the jab but Peterson is out of range.
Laavalahti lands with a shot to the body.
Peterson looks to land a combination but Laavalahti avoids it well.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

and Peterson counters with a series of strikes. Laavalahti will be more careful next time no doubt.

Peterson misses with a few strikes there.

Laavalahti drives through and clinches with Peterson against the cage.
Laavalahti lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Peterson.
Peterson keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Laavalahti's efforts to push away.

Peterson pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Peterson shoots in and bounces Laavalahti off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Peterson throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Laavalahti works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Peterson postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Laavalahti is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

and Peterson makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

and Peterson decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Laavalahti's guard.

Laavalahti controls Peterson momentarily but Peterson frees himself.
Laavalahti is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Peterson is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Peterson throws a strike but Laavalahti rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Laavalahti misses with an uppercut. Peterson saw that one coming.
Laavalahti is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Laavalahti looks to score with a jab to the body but Peterson is just out of range.

and Peterson counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Laavalahti's guard now.
Peterson really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Laavalahti. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Laavalahti bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Peterson's guard.

Laavalahti is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Laavalahti won't allow Peterson to sweep him here.

Laavalahti pushes down on Peterson's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Peterson flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Peterson can do anything to dispel that myth.

Laavalahti is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Laavalahti is trying to control. Peterson wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Peterson is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Laavalahti seems to be looking for submissions.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Peterson falls off balance throwing a combination
and Laavalahti counters with a straight right hand.
Peterson throws a jab but it's blocked by Laavalahti.
Peterson throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Laavalahti's waist but Laavalahti gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Peterson off to one side.
Laavalahti moves in looking to clinch but Peterson pushes him off.
Laavalahti looks to score with a jab to the body but Peterson is just out of range.
Laavalahti looks to land a right hand but Peterson moved out of range.
Laavalahti is looking to wear down Peterson with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.

Laavalahti tries to clinch there but Peterson circles away.
Kuunojuhani Laavalahti is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Peterson gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Laavalahti to score an easy takedown into full guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Laavalahti accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Laavalahti stands and throws Peterson's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Peterson wants to improve his position, back to half guard but Laavalahti has ideas of his own. He's got hold of Peterson's far side arm and it looks like he's got an Americana. Ohh! Ohhhh! OOOOOOOOOH! A human being's arm is not meant to bend like that! Peterson is tapping like a morse code operator on the Titanic! SOS SOS! He's out of here! Great win for Laavalahti!
