PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Musashimaru Koyo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fokk Yu Long (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Koyo comes to the cage accompanied by "Tengoku Kara Kaminari" by Israel Kamakawiwo'ole. Both these guys are coming into the fight with injuries so let's see if that has a bearing on the fight. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Musashimaru Koyo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Fokk Yu Long!
The judges for this bout are Sosuke Kotani, Yukihiro Shimada and Shigeki Sano.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Long lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Koyo circles away quickly and effectively.
Long connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Koyo momentarily.
Long looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Koyo has closed the distance and engaged Long in a clinch.
Long is looking to break free of the clinch but Koyo has double underhooks.
Long is trying to break the clinch but Koyo has him pressed against the cage.
Koyo just leaning against Long, taking a breather.
Koyo crunches a lovely knee into Long's ribcage.
Long looks gassed!
Koyo lands a nice shot to the body.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Long just misses with a punch to the body.
Long checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Long lands an overhand right.
Koyo misses with a low kick.
Koyo tries to work over Long's front leg with a kick but Long checks it.
Koyo dodges the punch combination from Long.
A clash of legs there as Long blocks the low kick.
Some wild striking there from Long.
A swing and a miss from Long.
Koyo displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Long throws out the jab.
Long misses with a looping left.
Koyo slips a straight right by Long.
Fokk Yu Long is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Long looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Koyo tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Long was well out of range. Poor timing from Koyo.

A short body shot lands from Koyo as the two fighters clinch.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Koyo lands a nice knee to the body.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Koyo is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Long gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Long presses Koyo against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Koyo fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Long, pushing him back against the cage.
Long on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Koyo's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

Koyo throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Long blocks it with crossed arms.
Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Koyo obliges.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Koyo might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Long can do anything to dispel that myth.
Long really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Koyo. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Koyois looking to pass into half guard but Long pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Long is in guard.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Long trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Koyo throws a front kick aimed at Long's knee but Long avoids it well.
Koyo avoids a punch combination nicely.
Koyo throws a leg kick that misses.
Long rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Koyo moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Long throws a lazy right hand but Koyo sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Koyo closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Koyo is trying to control. Long wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Long regains full guard. Nicely done.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Long misses with a hook to the body

so Koyo counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Koyo postures up in Long's guard and throws a big left but Long blocks it.

Long is staying active underneath Koyo, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Koyo looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Long ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Koyo moves away.
Koyo misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Long.

Fokk Yu Long seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Koyo shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Koyo showed some decent athleticism there.
Long regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Koyo.
Long has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Koyo has passed into side control.
An elbow from Koyo crashes against the mat.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Koyo tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Long regains half guard.

Musashimaru Koyo clearly takes that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


An inside leg kick from Koyo misses.
Koyo moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Long blocks a low kick nicely.
Koyo closes this distance looking for a takedown but Long circles away.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Koyo lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Long has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Long and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.

It's got to the stage where if one of these guys blows hard enough, the other might fall over.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Koyo not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Musashimaru Koyo overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Koyo dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Long. That did some damage!

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Koyo, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
