PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Rob Pain (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Micky Hatton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Pain comes to the cage accompanied by Ol' Dirty Bastard - Shimmy Shimmy Ya. Hatton is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Rule Britannia. Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Rob Pain!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Micky Hatton!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, Paul Tew and James Ackerman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hatton lands a nice looking kick to the body. Pain takes a step back to recover.
Hatton stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Hatton wants it to stay on the feet.
Micky Hatton seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Hatton fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Pain, pushing him back against the cage.

Pain takes a knee right on the jaw!
Pain jumps guard but Hatton stands there with Pain around his waist. Pain gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Hatton with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.

Hatton has Pain pressed against the cage, preventing Pain from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Hatton lands a damaging elbow.
Hatton throws an elbow but it misses.
With the fighters up against the cage, Hatton throws an elbow but misses.
Hatton lands an elbow inside.
Pain drops down looking for an ankle pick but Hatton pulls his leg out and moves away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rob Pain. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Hatton shoots in and bounces Pain off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Hatton stands and steps away. Pain gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Hatton lands an elbow just above Pain 's eye.
Hatton comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.

Pain decides to pull guard.
Pain has a closed guard, preventing Hatton from standing up.

Pain working for a triangle but Hatton defends it easily.
Pain looking to control.
Hatton looking to pass the guard.
Hatton must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Pain has a closed guard, preventing Hatton from standing up.

Hatton stopping the sweep attempt from Pain.
Hatton wants to pass the guard but Pain is keeping the position.
Hatton would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Hatton has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Pain is proving hard to escape from.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Hatton decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Pain works his way to full guard. Good work.
Hatton has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Pain is proving hard to escape from.
Hatton looks gassed!
Hatton postures up.
Hatton tries to stand but Pain is controlling from the bottom.
Pain has momentary wrist control but Hatton slips an elbow through the middle.
Hatton stops Pain from standing up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hatton throwing strikes from guard but Pain blocks nicely.
Pain looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Hatton catches Pain with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Pain tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Hatton holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Hatton keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Pain's efforts to push away.
Pain tries for a takedown. No joy.

Hatton manages to break the clinch.
Hatton leaves Pain with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Pain misses with a takedown

and Hatton counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Hatton really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Pain. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Hatton decides to return to a standing position.
Hatton feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Pain's calf.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Hatton closes the distance and pushes Pain back into the cage.
Pain tries to pull guard but Hatton won't allow it.
Hatton will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Pain up against the cage.
Hatton comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Micky Hatton dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Pain tries a head kick but it misses.

Hatton takes the fight into the clinch.

Hatton has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Pain regains guard immediately.

Hatton drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Pain manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Hatton has Pain in his guard.

Pain stands up from guard. Let's bang!

and Hatton moves into the clinch.
Pain is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Hatton pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hatton lands an elbow that stopped Pain in his tracks for a moment.
Pain takes a knee to the side of the body.
Hatton misses with the head strike.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
Hatton lands a glancing elbow in the clinch.
Pain can't find room to land a body shot as Hatton controls the action.
Pain avoiding damage as Hatton throws knees to the body.
Hatton displaying some good clinch control by pressing Pain up against the cage.
Pain blocks the elbow strike.
Pain blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Hatton gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Pain.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rob Pain. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Hatton controlling the action here for a moment.
Hatton misses with a knee to the head.
Pain is looking to control Hatton's arms but Hatton gets an underhook and turns him. Now Pain has his back to the cage.
Hatton pushes Pain back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.

Pain manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Pain looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Hatton is defending well. Pain quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Hatton has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Pain celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:41 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Rob Pain!
